Colonel, I know Phil. I don't question his integrity because I know him. The are many people, just like you, that sit on the sidelines and watch. The keyword was watch. Notice, i didn't say participate.

The vast majority of letterman are upset for Phil that he could not push the players enough to win. It is frustrating now and it was frustrating when I played. My former teammates and I have nothing but respect for the man. I am in debt to him for the opportunities that he gave me. So there is no need for me to stay tuned other than to hope for a replacement that cares about the game and life the way he does.

95: I'm glad you feel strongly about PB-- I do not believe that a majority of the players under his tenure feel the same as you do. The reason I believe that statement is few ex-players roam the sidelines, which is common in today's game. I BELIEVE THEIR ABSENCE SPEAKS VOLUME. I also believe that faith in PB's head coaching ability was lacking by this team. I believe that because I have never seen a team lose more games in 4Q as this PB led team.

Just like you, I know him & I know he tried hard & he's had personal events that people should not have to endure.

But he came looking for this job, a job for which he was handsomely paid. And he woefully failed. And he set SMU FB back 5 years. Now during these same years, I have heard from a number of parents who have discussed the rants in practice & some of the insulting ways he handled players. In the past, I viewed occasional practices. And I was less than impressed.

And his glaring errors in coaching leadership in the games reflects this same "I" attitude that he exudes. Even his DMN opening quote after Memphis was "I'm outta here".

Now 95, you are correct, I do sit & watch.

But that would be for 2 reasons:
[1] I'm not good enough, and [2] my athletic eligibility was used up decades ago. I know a little about what I'm talking about, although most of this is just opinion and observation.

Understood. Some players like to be pushed and respond accordingly. Some players don't and responds as they may.

Let's hope the new coach earns respect, though it is expected.
