definitely two things that should never be mentioned in connection with your starting qb. If this story is true, Bartel had become a cancer and people ought to lay off Bennett. No wonder Bartel played so bad on Saturday, he had completely lost focus mentally if he was playing intramurals on Thursday night and getting in fights. So now we have had a rock star, an accountant and a baseball player/brawler as our last 3 qbs. Is there a football player in our future?

Agreed. Why in the world s a starting quarterback playing intramurals? If Bennett allowed this, I would be shocked. What if he got hurt? I'd kick someone off my team just for playing intramurals, much less getting into a fight.

I'm not speculating, but varsity athletes are not allowed to compete in intramural sports, per SMU intramural rules. However, if he was playing, say, intramural soccer... that's a different story.

I frickin can't believe this. Its beyond ridiculous. Playing intramurals two nights before a game is enough to lose your position no questions asked. Starting a fight during an intramural game that you shouldn't be playing in to begin with is beyond a stupid move. If this is true, its about the worst thing a starting qb could do to [deleted] off a coach and undermine a team. Go out, get drunk, chase women, get a speeding ticket fine, but intramurals? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I've heard (from people who were there) is that it was just a practice game mainly for the student refs to get some of the rules down and figure out how to run the games. It wasn't even a real intramural game! How stupid do you have to be to get into a fight over intramurals practice!

Let's see, I remember several concussions during Intramural football games, one spleen rupture, one head through a car windshield, lots of sprained ankles, knees and contusions. That was only one season. Can you imagine if our starting QB got hit and ruptured spleen during the season in an Intramural game? If that's the case, then he was an idiot. Having been an Intramural referee, and having several frats extremely ticked at me after "important games", I never felt the need to call the cops. Sounds like a rookie referee got his panties in a wad.

If what I've heard is correct, it was one of the oldest referees out there. But I've been in games he officiated and he can be a real a-hole. He thinks he is in the NFL and does his best to [deleted] off everyone playing the game.

Geez I hate refs.

It is against NCAA rules to participate in intramurals for the sport in which you compete in. There are exceptions to this-- national teams, etc, but not any as far as I know for this level. Now-- football player playing basketball is a different story.
