I'm not saying Fran wouldn't be successful at SMU...I just think he lacks class. I'm glad he did what he did for TCU but I simply have to question his character (and it is not because he left TCU). Plus, I wouldn't be able to pull for SMU anymore (not that you all would care:).
Sure you could. I would cheer for you if you hired Bennett back.

Get real people. Whether or not he is a 'nice guy' DOES NOT MATTER!
We cannot be selective!
It's not that he is or isn't a nice guy (he comes across in person as a very nice guy), it's that he has questionable character and hasn't always done the classy/right thing when it comes to his players.

RF-
That right there is the kicker IMO. He can show up the AD, and double-talk boosters and probably still earn a living. But if does that (and I think his record show he has) to his players at every stop, how can he continue to be a successful college coach burning bridges every place he goes?

Is there something personal about Fran you would like to share?
Did you not see that display after the game Friday? They had just beat their biggest (and only) rival, and those kids and the university had all of 1 hour to relish it, because he needed to be in the spotlight, get the upper hand on BB and be THE story, instead of that team of kids that he "cares so much for."
What a phony!
I disagree FW. Fran made the announcement because Byrne was right beside him with his prepared remarks and obviously, he already had his new coach signed and sealed. As far as Fran's personality, his kids sure backed him so he's got that going for him. I'll gladly take a prickly head coach if he wins......

Because we are the worst team in the nation and if the players do not like it they can all be replaced by equal or better players and they need to realize that from the outset.

That's my concern, and the concern I mentioned also about recruiting.
Recruiting at SMU is hard enough without having someone point out our new coach loves to leave players without having the nerve to at least address them, or will write letters about them and their performance for money to selective boosters.
By the way, as for the coaches down here at Smithson Valley, Madison, Reagan, and Alamo Heights who I know personally (and even saw some over the holiday) not a one of them liked Fran or the way he went about his business, even those who were Aggies. Again, he may be an improvement but I would prefer someone else.

Apparently he doesn't need the boys in the Northern SA area. His DFW and Houston pipelines are pretty good.

Class of '91
I am not as much concerned with the current SMU players. Everywhere he has been he has had one foot out the door the day he stepped on campus (that and his hand in someone's pocket.) Most guys that reach a certain level, probably are [deleted]; it's goes with the territory. But he just has been untrustworthy, two-faced and greedy. A-hole I can handle. Those last three are intolerable.
