it's official that there's no ANNOUNCED coach. My hope for Christmas is that GJ Ford has decided to spend his fortune over the next 10 years on our next coaching staff and that everyone's agreed to terms already. Stoops just has to finish out the season.

Wow. Talk about swinging for the fences. But how great would it be.

I know you were joking and I was just sitting here thinking about how great it would be to have Stoops.

Passengers certain to die!
Airline negligent!
There's a sale at Pennys!

They fired their coach. They knew what they were getting into. I say...let'em float!

With Sherman being named, this would not have been the day to make an announcement. We need a down sports day where no other state sports news is happening.

Why rush? It is not like we are in a two way battle with Michigan to get Les Miles or Bob Stoops. There are several like-type candiates intereted in the job. This is a very important hire and we need to make sure it is the right hire. Patience folks. And who knows, we could already have a coach hired and working out the details of the contract.

Yeah, I'm with you. This is getting old. I'm starting to wonder if we're ever going to climb out of this crater.

Why rush? a couple weeks ago, we were the only job opening, and that move was made b/c of speculation that there would be quite a few openings at the end of the season and we didn't want to be competing with some of these other schools.

so now with the vacancies created, here is who we are competing with either by location or based on last years coach's salary considering we're at the $1.2MM level now:
Baylor (locale & Morriss $1.144MM)
Mississippi (Oregon earned $905k)
Georgia Tech (Gailey earned $1.009MM)
Duke (academic stds)
Nebraska (only b/c some people think Turner Gill would be a fit here or there - which he wouldn't be at either)
I didn't bother to include Michigan or Arkansas (or A&M for that matter) because we aren't looking at the same guys.

Then consider all the vacancies created when these schools hire...
if Neb gets Jim Grobe from Wake Forest, we're competing against them for a hire (grobe earned $987k)

I hope that this clears up why we need to act swiftly. we have had time to interview. Steve-O knew who would be available. Now there are opportunities opening up as the season comes to an end that weren't there before and some of our candidates might now decide to wait and see what else is out there.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
