Its a job not a divorce. Get over it. If you don't I'll have to bring out my list of the greatest coaches in the history of Mankind who all "left those poor boys at his old job". THEY ALL DO IT. Including Bear Bryant who did it at Kentucky and A&M. I'm sure there is some poor disappointed fan that thought Bear Bryant was a [deleted] too. Hell you stole Franchione from TCU. Wah!Wah!Wah!

Fran would keep me from ever watching another game SMU plays. Look at his records - he hasn't been that successful and when he has been he immediately leaves to go to a bigger program. I think he's a sorry opportunist and I don't want to be a pawn for him to use.

I am sure Doherty told all the kids he was recruiting that he would be leaving quickly. It is the nature of the beast. Even the Nutt lovers in Arkansas are saying that 10 years is way too long to remain a coach at one school. In my days 10 years was not unusual.

Oh, and we will miss those of you that will no longer follow the Mustangs if Fran is hired. True colors.

All I remember about him when he was beating us at New Mexico and TCU is that his teams played better fundamental football than ours. It might be argued that his play calling and offensive schemes could have been more imaginative, but the players were obviously well coached in their positions and were extremely disciplined. I think discipline would make a certain quarterback on our squad an even more effective player by the way.

Would that be the same group of people who called him a traitor and despised him for leaving TCU for the Bama job? We are now to believe all that anger was because they thought he was a "loser"? You make it sound as if they were glad to see him go. TCU folks are just like the Bama folks...they have become obsessed in the hope Fran will fail...because they are all acting like the proverbial "woman scorned". What a nightmare for those same TCU folks if Fran was to come to SMU and the Ponies started kicking froggie arses again. It could definitely revive this rivalry...although my guess is that Patterson and Fran may be friends and would not fan the flames.

Six years ago ago we were talking about Bennett or Waters, now we're talking about...Fran, Nutt, Bowden etc... what an upgrade ANY of these coaches would be!!!

Not going to be Bowden or Nutt. Haven't heard any good information on Fran, but he would be good for SMU if we could snag him. He may take some time off.

what bigger challenge for ANY coach to come to SMU to see if they can turn this trainwreck around?

and...if it is Fran...and he comes in here and wins immediately (of course he will have done so with Bennett's players), I suspect all will be forgiven. If he was to arrive in time to salvage any semblance of a recruiting class, so much the better.

We are all looking for Orsini to land a "name" coach. He may be controversial, but there's not denying Fran is a "name" in this business.

As for all this loyalty talk...get over it. It's a 2 way street in this business. If any of you still don't see clearly what the life and times of a Division I head coaching gig is these days, you've not been paying attention.

I was going to disagree with you, but you're right except for Fran's first year in 1998. We were even with TCU in recruiting in '97 and '98 and shared the best non-BCS recruiting classes between us. Malin happened and we fell off the face of the earth.

That can't be true can it? If that's the case, and you extrapolate the '98 "best non-bcs" class to '03, it seems we should have gone better than 0-12 in '03.

Interesting Blinn JC where Brad Franchione coaches has at least 4 JC players who looks like are being highly recruited AND have not committed-a LB, a DE, a CB and a DE. Instant defensive help?
