CFB News: SMU HC Job Ranks 12th out of 12 available

12. SMU
Prestige Factor: Stepping-stone job
Ideal Candidate Would Have … success at the D-I level as a top-notch offensive coordinator or with an exciting offense that could work anywhere. Previous success at some level in Texas is a must.
They Should Think About … Rice head coach David Bailiff
The Skinny: The program has never been able to overcome the 1987 death penalty brought on by the sins of the heyday, but the team is in good enough shape for someone to step in right away and succeed in Conference USA play. Former head man Phil Bennett didn’t have much success, but this was supposed to be a big year with the building blocks he put in place.

Phil didn't have much success? What an understatement.

I guess had this writer been around in 1836, he would have said Col. Travis didn't have the day he was expecting at the Alamo

I've never doubted you. I agree with some on the board. I think you work in CFB in some capacity.

I think SMU is second to last on that list. SMU is a better job than NIU. All the other schools have BCS money...

Northern Illinois had seven straight winning seasons prior to this year.

The column is a waste. In fact, he even starts out by saying that if it sucks, it is not his fault.

Jobs that nobody in their right mind want:
- Baylor
- Duke
- Northern Illinois

SMU is not a bad gig if we actually pay BCS money. We win 7 freaking games and go to to the Cancer Bowl in Houma, Louisana and the coach is lauded as a genius. He wins CUSA and he is coach of the year. You get to live in Highland Park. You are surrounding by one of the largest collections of D1 football talent in the country. Also, you are not the doormat of a BCS conference like Baylor and Duke. You don;t play second fiddle to a basketball team like at Duke. More importantly you do not live in Dekalb or Waco.
