Expectations

While I know it may look bad at times I want to see something out of Phillips that gives SMU fans/students/alums optimism for next year. This program needs something, anything to generate some excitement. Hopefully, Phillips is mature enough to know that he is going to make mistakes and struggle at times but its something he must go through. I hope Bennett allows him scramble and throw the ball down the field, preferably a few to Pellerin. These two guys appear to be a part of the future so we might as well get them experience now. Hand the ball off to Fitzgerald and Massey (assuming his health allows) as much as possible, but still give KK his carries. He has earned that. KK is the Q of this year’s football team, classy and talented. Give the younger guys (Barnett, Sturdivant, and Cleveland) more time on defense. The play of the upperclassmen in the secondary has been questionable at best. Overall, just try to find some playmakers.

Massey has resumed his redshirt status and won't play until next year. LB Avery Cleveland has been redshirting all year and also won't play. Burning his redshirt now would make no sense, especially since the LBs have played pretty well.

It seems that Massey is being redshirted vs. playing on that sprained ankle.
