I have it on good information that Gailey has been contacted by SMU and is interested. No offer has been made to him as of yet though as someone else reported. Not a WOW hire in my opinion - hopefully it will not pan out.

I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but if Steve-O pulls of someone bigger than a guy who went to 6 straight bowl games and took the cowboys to the playoffs two years in a row, he's a genius and he should get a lifetime contract. This has to be a difficult job to attract top notch talent to and if he capable to doing it, we won't have him very long.

I would like to see us do better but am getting beat down every day with the chances we can.
Hoenstly, Orsini is probably already seeing the adverts talking about SMU being lead by the former coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Gailey would be a solid selection. Not to sound like a broken record (I just posted this under another thread) but in six years at Georgia Tech --same number Phil had at SMU--he was 44-32, a respectable but not too impressive record. He never had a losing season and went to a bowl every year (granted, three of those bowls were the Silicon Valley Classic, the Humanitarian Bowl and the Emerald Bowl). With the Cowboys he was 10-6 (won the division) and 8-8 (second in the division), and both seasons he led them to the playoffs. By comparison, the year before he took over the Cowboys they were 6-10 (finished fourth in the division) and the year afer he left they were 5-11 (finished fourth in the division). And the fact is, he was handed a Cowboys team with superstars at the tail-end of their careers. Not a bad record.
Anyone looking for a coach who's going to put us in the national championship hunt next year is going to be disappointed with whoever is selected because it isn't going to happen. We first need someone who can return us to respectability on the field. Gailey would be that type of hire.

I thought the rumor was that the candidate had a team playing this weekend. Georgia Tech is not playing this weekend. I love rumors when they begin to get all wound up. Remember the not until the end of the year rumor. Remember the no dirty laundry rumor. Remember the Nutt rumors. This is all too funny. I'll bet Orsini has about five of the new persona that now grace our board and is throwing out names just to see us chase our tails.

Man all I care about right now is does the new coach have the name to make recruits believe there could be hope at SMU.
I think Gailey at least has enough name recognition to get us the recruits over Rice, Tulsa, UNT and Houston. Sorry but we have been losing recruits to all of those lately.

I hope he's too busy finding our new coach to post on here, but something tells me he is definitely on here in some form or fashion. I believe that it was revealed that about everyone in the TAMU athletic department was posting on TexAgs.

What would really be funny is if SO selects a coach never mentioned, but I don't think that will happen. I am still convinced the SMU job is considered by many a good job to have just because of the rich history and tradition and that certain recognizable coaches would love a shot at it.

I'd be surprised if Konya wasn't one of those alter egos thowing names out. He looks like a joker.
Matter of fact, given his stature...maybe he's biggin.

As pessimistic as I am about this search, I still think this is possible. Coaches are a confident/arrogant lot and they all think they can turn around any program and I think deep down there are lots of them that would like to be the one to turn this train wreck around. They know they'd be Coach of the Year and they'd be the coach that finally resurrected the only program to have ever gotten the death penalty.
