There's a big-name coach out there with a great winning record, and he wants to come to SMU. Get the deal done and hire Terry Bowden.
He's not slow-walking SMU. He wants to be here, or so I've heard. He would bring a ton of publicity and excitement and, if W-L records mean anything, the guy can coach. He's a high-energy guy, which is exactly what SMU needs.
Whatever off-field issues he had at Auburn were entirely personal in nature and did not affect his performance or the integrity of the program.
It's true he hasn't coached in nine years. That would only be an issue if he were an old man. He's not. He's young, he's smart and he's kept his head in the game.
Get Bowden. Now.

You have to ask yourself why has no one hired Terry Bowden? Not Baylor, TAM, Ole Miss the list goes on and on.
A friend of mine, a former Mustang player and now attorney who knows and represents some Div 1 coach says the issues Bowden had at Auburn were deeper than publicized and he has a reputation as a kind of a nut with a lot of baggage.
Before you Bowden boys jump my [deleted]. I'm not saying I agree with this assessment, bacause I personally have always thought he would be a great hire and was excited when his name was brought up. But, it does make you wonder why his name is not even associated with any new openings (except ours).
I have also been told by a search committee member that he is not even being considered by us. Who really knows, maybe it's all a smoke screen, nothing would surprise me at this point.

There has never been any doubt that our next head coach will be Bowden. I think Bowden is a done deal, the only reason it has not been announced is because they want to do it on a day where SMU gets all the press, including national press. I think though, the deal would have been done earlier excpect that Bowden wanted to test the waters. Bowden is a WOW, a proven coach, and face for a program.

I have heard that Bowden has "issues" of a personal nature that would probably precluded him from coaching and has limited any interest that any football program, no matter how desperate, will have in him.

Utterly ridiculous. I can understand programs like Nebraska/Michigan and MAYBE even A&M not going after him, but there will be plenty of the others talking to him, and probably already are. GT, Duke, Arkansas, Houston are probably hot on the trail..
