The right answer is usually the simplest answer.Through all of our machinations, rumor posting, spinning, and speculating, reading what SWC Grey Hair posted on the DMN blog got me thinking. You attorneys can appreciate this. Wouldn't it make sense that it's more likely than not that Orsini has simply had his Magic Mustang for some time, the guy's season ends Saturday, and we'll have the PC Monday or Tuesday?
I mean, what kind of collosal failure as an AD and a search committee would have to exist for us to buy into the fact that we're actually still interviewing people and looking for the 'right guy'?
Re: The right answer is usually the simplest answer.
Gosh. I wonder who has been saying that since day 1?

I'm an attorney. I don't know that I appreciate this line of thinking more than anyone else. But I think this is the most likely scenario. Class of '02

And I think you have been right, since day 1. ![]()
Re: The right answer is usually the simplest answer.
That collosal failure unfortunately is SMU. Orsini doesn't "have his guy" unless that guy is somebody that no one has heard of or cares about. Trust me - you cannot keep a coaching hire a secret for very long. ![]()
My only argument to this statement is that apparently our memories are short term enough that we have forgotten we are the worst team in Division 1A. How deep of trouble can we be in if the sky has fallen. What if, and I in no way believe this, all the "sky is falling" predictions are correct? How much worse can we be. Had we had our typical 4th and 1 shortfall against NTSU, we would be 0-12 this year. AGAIN!! Anything is going to be an upgrade and I think for the most part we will all be pretty pleased. Those that are not will have to be content that Carroll is still at USC and did not shun us for someone else but rather just decided to stay where he was.

I was thinking along the lines that at some point in your academic career, you probably took a test that posed a question like The reasoning above conforms most closely to which one of the following principles?

I mean, what kind of collosal failure as an AD and a search committee would have to exist for us to buy into the fact that we're actually still interviewing people and looking for the 'right guy'?[/quote] I consider that to be a very valid question. Read this quote from Steve, and tell me how you would answer your own question. Orsini says SMU right on schedule Don't expect SMU to announce its new coach in the next couple of days. Yes, the search is on Week 5. SMU was the first to move when it fired Phil Bennett on Oct. 28. Baylor and Texas A&M already have their new coaches. New positions are opening rapidly. But SMU athletic director Steve Orsini on Wednesday insisted that SMU is right where it wants to and planned to be. And that's still trying to get the right man. "As we've said, we're aiming high," Orsini said. "We're looking for an established coach with a proven track record. With that, you kind of give up your schedule sometimes to make yourself attractive and work with the top candidates." Orsini said while he's pleased with how things are going, "Until we get our guy, there's no celebration here." We'll have more from Orsini in tomorrow's paper. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
I'm on board with this. Assuming things are as bleak as Biggin's people indicate (though frankly, absense of evidence isn't evidence of absense... but I digress), We'd better get Barnett. [deleted], I'm on board with Barnett over most of the other names being tossed out there. -CoS
since when does biggin have "people?" I still think he's Jeff Konya.
XTC:
You know I love ya but why can one statement made by Orisini to the players be explained as a smokescreen and this statement made to the press taken at full value. To me logic says he has had his man from the beginning, which is why he had to let Bennett go when he did and why he wanted Bennett to finish. I also stated from the beginning that the end of our season never meant anything. The announcement will come after the coach that has been selected finishes his season. Now I could be very wrong, but nothing, not one thing that has occured to date has been anything but on schedule with what I believed would happen. After next week if nothing has been leaked or announced, my schedule will be out of whack, but then again I say we are the worst team in Div 1A (plus more) and anything will be an improvement. But for now I still feel very confident that things will come out just fine.
