Peruna 2001, I understand it seems like all I do is complain. But trust me, I'm not called Longtime for nothing. If no one complains about anything, SMU's administration will just keep doing the same wrong things over and over and over. Complaining has gotten a lot of good things done at SMU over the years, but now the current administration uses the excuse of "That's how Top 25 programs do it." which is complete B.S.
I've been to many different college and pro arenas. I've seen how big-time programs operate. When I travel for business, that's what I do for fun: check out the local sports team. Like someone said above, SMU has by far the worst game presentation of any so-called major college. The only other one that comes close is Rice, and they're stuck with a much worse facility than SMU.
Just travel 90 minutes down the road to Waco and catch a Baylor game. Their team isn't very good. Their attendance is weak. But their game presentation is night and day from what SMU does. And they're no Top 25 program.

I agree that the game presentation sucks. The concessions suck as well. The Doh's Rising Sun Fried Chicken Shack image is just freaky. Unless of course we give out buckets of chicken after every game that we win with this logo on it.
There has got to be something we can do with the freaking video board. How about scores from around the country. Highlights. Funny bits like Bamba eating burgers and washing his clothes. Anything. Something. I was commenting on this at the 1st game. Though I do like the new floor.
As for Banners, I like how the US Flag is hanging sideways around what I believe is an air vent. The place is bush league and needs to be cleaned up.
Also, do something that makes the freaking concession stand at least remotely unique. Your most exciting offering cannot be bagged processed cheese food on year old corn chips. Make some real nachos and grill up some real grub. Otherwise I will continue to eat elsewhere before the game.

Does anyone know any of the proposed changes to Moody? The web site lists:
1. Wider concourse
2. Upgraded lighting and sound system
3. More Concessions
4. Replace wood bleachers with blue stadium seating
I think previous posts have hit upon several fixes that could be done for very little cost. I am not sure what changes can be made that would WOW us, but will say that I am not a big fan of the new scoreboard, did anyone measure that behemoth prior to putting it in a shopping cart? I wouldn't mind a fresh coat of paint on the seats.

Knucklestang, you are an idiot. Really. If you think the product that SMU is throwing out in this market -- or any market -- is acceptable in any way, shape or form, you are a fool. I am ready to send my tickets back to Mr. Orsini.

And they're not going to be, not until they double their ticket prices! Thats what The Survey says. Silly Bears, I bet they never even read The Survey. They dont stand a chance..........

Hey, I never said I was smart. I'm just saying I was at the home opener this year, and I thought the only thing missing from the experience was a.) a winning team and b.) about 7,500 more people who are as passionate about SMU basketball as the band is.

[quote="KnuckleStang"]I sense some mispaced aggression here. If we were 5-0 and ranked and had enough fans in there to create some kind of hostile atmosphere for opponents, I'm not sure this thread would exist?

You're absolutely right, if we were 5-0 and ranked in the top-25, no one would even be thinking about any of this except as vague after thoughts.
But that's the whole point.......... we're not.
Despite our best efforts to raise prices on tickets and concessions, (Survey Says!) we're Bottom-25, not top. Moody isnt packed, it's a ghost town. We are light years away from simply letting the game and the crowd generate their own atmosphere. When the team looks like this, you have to at least try and give the paying (double) customers something beyond a sacreligious ode to the head coach on your scoreboard.
One day the mushrooms are going to wake up and starting asking the tough questions, like "why am I paying this much money for....... nothing?"
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Like I said, I don't care if all you do is complain. I complain a lot too. I think all that matters is that we are complaining to the right people and, in part, this message board is part of it. I also think that it is good to pick our battles. Personally, I think that complaining about almost everything accomplishes very little. I agreed with several of your points. There is a lot we can do better. Here are things that I think we could immediately do something about:
1. Video board production: I hate seeing such a behemoth go to waste. Put some more animations up. Use some of the production from last year. They did that for football. I hated that I always knew to pick the number one Genghis bowl and the Fajita wing in the video board games, but at least there was something.
2. Aesthetics: Put some curtains up (like they use for graduation) over the unused benches. Put the cheerleaders or dance team in the blank space where the band used to be if they start showing up to more games. I hope that some of the issues will be solved by next year, but hopefully temporary "quick" fixes can be used in the meantime.
3. Game Day Experience: I'm not sure if we've figured out how to manage ticket sales. Luckily, I have season tickets, but when I picked them up, I had troubles at the ticket office. Maybe try some audience-participation games during timeouts/halftime. Some of #3 can be fixed if #1 is fixed.
"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"

We need more Knucklestang songs for time outs and half time!
Maybe a Knucklestang CD give awa night...I am sure there would even be some left over for the next Women's game.

You know a lot of game concessions are going to franchisees of national brands which agree to sponsorships. At Verizon Center, they have Papa Johns, Dunkin Donuts, Boardwalk Fries, and next door to it, McDonalds and Chipotle. Now that would be cool to have a Chipotle Stand at Moody. Of course you might not want to be seated behind someone who got the dreaded burrito with the hot sauce.

I agree, I think a lot of the things have nothing to do with budgets. If you get a scoreboard like that, use it correctly.
Get rid of the announcer please, his time has come.
All we are asking is for someone to pay attention. I don't think the things complained about are unreasonable. Most of us have been to other arenas and see what can be done.
Definitely not top 25 as Orsini keeps saying..

Good point on the announcer. Last night Detroit Tiger, Clarence Granderson, was the halftime guest. The announcer kept calling him Kevin.................And on top of that, they made him do stupid human pet tricks............
