should i start i blog

exp's source could be wrong even if it's in the athletic dept. fran would be a good coach, i'm just got a little heartburn with him personally so i hope it's not (and we get someone better)
im not a big Fran fan, and would be pleased if I was wrong and instead we had: Applewhite, Bowden, or Johnson. So here's to hoping I'm wrong, but honestly Fran would be a "Wow" hire, and would be great for the program

Look all i want to know is what does A&M picking a bowl game have to do with the annoucement. Fran is a freeagent coach.
It's Fran or Johnson... I was told Fran. Not sure why it matters, but that's what I was told. If my source is wrong they will be cut out of my circle of trust

So you are saying it could be either one of them now.

this thread has virtually exploded. Ya think we are all anxious to have a new coach? Fran makes sense here (and I personally love the idea of what it brings to the "battle for the skillet". I would anticipate that Fran would test the waters to see if any of the BCS programs who have fired their coaches might have an interest in him (with the possible exception of Duke?) but assuming he has fallen from grace, why not regain your reputation at SMU if a decent package is offered?

Whos your source? You dont have to give details. Just tell us how close your source is to the caoching search.
close

How close? :?

His name is "expony18" he's currently in law school. He's got friends on the team.... and I assume he was just as much of a fun loving goofball (and I say that with the utmost respect) in school as he is now, so I am sure he has friends all over the athletic department.

I think Fran will be fine but I do question the "no baggage" rule with the posting the other day of the letters concerning the email scandal. Personally, I hope you are right and if not I will live with Paul Johnson if it be he. With Pete Carroll as the fall back, how can we lose.

Here is the thing, i can't get behind this hire. As a Redskins fan, I watched when we hired Norv Turner, and never ever felt comfortable having a Cowboy as the head man. Same holds true for Fran. His entire rep was forged on making TCU good. It basically got him the Bama and A&M jobs.

Give me Johnson, all night long

I don't doubt you, my friend.... I must say - again - as much as I HATE Frangoat, there are so many others that I would just be so depressed about. I hate him, hate, hate, hate him. However, I would rather get somebody I hated than somebody I didn't know, that would be a "who the f is this deutsch bag?" type of dude.

Hate is a bad word....

I don't hate Franchione.
I loathe Franchione.

And I agree with mrydel.... the "no baggage" thing is weird.... he's got that slushee fund thing..... I'd rather have that chauvinist Barnett.

Yeah. That Fran is cagey alright. His whole plan was to build up TCU, go to Bama and A&M to pass some time and then come to SMU in order to make sure that they stay lower than TCU. It is a vast purple conspiracy. If we get Fran we would be in danger of losing 9 or 10 games. But wait, that would still be an improvement.

A friend of mine played at New Mexico under Mike Sheppard-Fran's predecessor-and was a junior in Fran's first season. Sheppard led UNM to a 96 to something Houstonesque loss to Fresno. I asked my friend how he liked Fran when he came to UNM. His response? "A@@hole." I said really? He said yeah, but later on the a##hole took UNM to a bowl...Sheppard never would've.

Much has been made about LT's responsibility for Fran's success at TCU. You could also make the argument that Urlacher had a similar role at New Mexico. The kid played safety, returned punts, kickoffs, everything.

He did raise a lot of $$...For years UNM's stadium held 30,000, and everyone said why expand it when our games only draw 12,000. Then along came a progressive AD (Rudy Davalos to our Steve O?), some football success, and now the stadium seats forty something thousand and they average in the mid to high thirties. Under Sheppard, games late in the year regularly drew 8 or 9 thousand. Sound familiar?

Fran would be such an upgrade here, as would Chan....last time I checked, this was the least desireable job on the list? Give me FranChan....or freakin' Steve Marrucci.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm not that excited about having a former Frog/Aggie coaching our guys, but if he brings us Ws, do we really care about his background or past transgressions? As an example, I hated TO for years because of his attitude and that stunt on the star at Texas Stadium, but now that he's a part of our 10-1 team, I'm glad we have him. I was at the Redskins game on the 18th and the Texas stadium fans were chanting "TO . . .TO . . . TO" after he scored his 4th touchdown of the game. Winning cures all.
