McNutt's Press Conference a CLASSIC!!

Postby FordtoTolbert » Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:25 pm

1500 fans showed up and they had to turn away another 500. Part preacher, part drill sargent, a little good old boy southern fried coach speak..."Today, I'm a Rebel!!"..fans went nuts. They had about 30+ clapping like crazy moments during the conference. Some hot sounding British chick from Mississippi public radio asked him why he was the highest paid person at Ole [deleted] even though he had NOTHING to do with education..funny exchange. This guy is going to kick some [deleted] in little old Oxfart. Sounds like O was a complete parinoid freakazoid...no fun to play for, according to the team. Hopefully, we will have s similar press conference when we name our guy in 3 - 4 weeks. Long Live Archie.

Maybe this isn't well known, but Arkansas and Ole Miss hate each other bigtime anyway. They're huge rivals. This Nutt hire pours gallons of fuel on that baby.

Oh, I don't know about this. Arkansas is not a bigger rival to Ole Miss than any other SEC program. The Rebels' main rivals are MS State, Bama, and LSU. Most of the "bad blood" and hate is reserved for State and LSU. People don't like Auburn b/c of Tuberville. I never got the sense while I was there that Ole Miss hated Arkansas. It was always a nice wknd when tey came to Oxford - good healthy game w/ good sportsmanship.

Good luck turning that thing around in the SEC - that is no small task. Kind of like turning Baylor around in the Big 12 - who you goona replace?

Truly in poor taste.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

Potential is nothing, performance is everything.

The Ole Miss/Arkansas hatred goes back to the 60's, or maybe even before that. There is still to this day arguing about a field goal ruled no good that would have won the game for UA. The official making the call was never allowed to officiate an Arkansas game again and if I recall, he died not too many years ago and it warranted a big celebratory article in the Arkansas paper. Arkansas moving into the SEC and playing them regularly has diminished the hatred but it is there. The school even agreed not to resume the rivalry for a while due to the high tensions.

mrydel,

Thanks for the history lesson. I spent 4 years in SEC county and had never heard this. I also didn't know Ole Miss really hated anyone other than Miss St.

They are not huge rivals, although now that Nutt is HC at OM, it will certainly intensify the matchup to a different level starting next year.

Arkansas doesn't really have a rival any more. Their biggest games are Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Florida on the rotating years that they appear on the schedule.

Arkansas still thinks their rival is Texas.
