Just say no . . . to Todd Graham

Postby PonyTime » Wed Nov 28, 2007 2:43 pm

How can this guy be considered a serious candidate?

With an average coaching staff and average gameday coach in place SMU would have beaten both Todd Graham teams - Rice last year and Tulsa this year.

Just about everyone on this board claims that PB was responsible for Rice going bowling last year - yet some on this board seem to think Todd Graham is the answer for SMU . . .

I just don't get it.

(if we are going for the best a-hole hire - lets bring Fran in and be done with it!)

How can YOU be such an idiot? I'm looking at the same thing you are and he has a pretty darn impressive resume including involvement with Bowl Games as a Head Coach and Assistant Coach just about every year, a Championship a miracle at Rice. He fits our job more logically and comfortably than any one in America.

Stallion - had you been calling the plays for SMU@Rice, Rice would not have been bowling.

The only "miracle at Rice" is that the miraculous bad play calling on First and Goal at the 1 yard line occured TWICE in the game.

Man, I wouldn't be upset to see Graham come here. If he did, I wouldn't think he was a [deleted] anymore.

Oh he'd still be a [deleted] bag, but he'd be OUR [deleted] bag.

I like the fact he is familiar with the "private school" dynamic that you HAVE to understand to come to SMU. He has had success at two of our competitors.. I'm with Stallion.

I don't get this thread-- why would he move to a more complicated bogged down program that the one he's got in Tulsa?

"I don't get this thread-- why would he move to a more complicated bogged down program that the one he's got in Tulsa?"

Using your words I agree....."you dont get it"

Why did Orsini leave UCF?

Why did Lee Iacocca leave a cush early retirement life and
take over nearly bankrupt Chrysler? Was that his only option?
Hardly!

Why do people in successful bands move-on and relegate
themselves to a much smaller audience?

For a whole host of reasons lots of people leave successful
positions to "start over" in lesser roles or positions.

Why did [deleted] Vermeil just walk away from his Super Bowl
Champion St. Louis Rams and go to the Kansas City Chiefs?

Many of these coaches are competitive as hell.
Thats how they get to where they are.
They love challenges.
They have huge egos of "I can getter done".

Or

There can be a million other reasons.
Their wife hates where they are.
Their kids hate where they are.
They hate the people they must answer to.
They miss home.
They miss their church.
They have elderly parents and want to be closer to home.
They miss friends.
They like a bigger or smaller town setting.
Ect....ect....ect...ect x 1000

Often it's called "piece of mind".

The irony in that question is staggering.

Oh.
Please.
God.
No.

That would be enough to make a lot of people find a new favorite team.

Heaven forbid we get a guy who is a proven winner in our conference. So what if he only stays 2-3 years? It's not like we've been winning for the last 20. We should be flattered that this is even a possibility.

No, he's a recruiter. Never seen anything that indicates he's a good coach or a bad coach. Just sort of "a guy."

jimhagle wrote:I don't see Graham bolting after 1 year again-plus he said he loves Tulsa.
Yeah, that's worth a lot. He also talked about how he'd "fallen in love with Rice" and gushed about the Owls' future .... just days before racing back to Tul$a'$ paycheck.
