Before this coaching search, all I knew about SMU was Mustangs, Eric Dickerson, and the death penalty. But that all changed when I heard they were considering Paul Johnson as a candidate for their head coaching job.

I'm convinced that SMU is tired of beingan also-ran in Conference USA by the fact that they are pursuing Johnson. Johnson is respected in the coaching community for this ability to win with talent (2 NC's at Georgia Southern, one was a blowout of Jim tressel's Youngstown team) and without (Navy is going bowling for the 5th year in a row...). He's not a dog and pony show, he won't win any popularity contests, but he wins....period.

Even if you don't hire Johnson, the fact that you pursued him speaks volumes about the commitment to win at SMU.

I would love to see what Johnson would do with our offense-maybe a variation of the spread and triple option. No one knows what he would do here offensively since he has always been strapped by where he has been. I think he would do some very creative things with our offense. Willis is definately better then Navy's qb and look what Johson made of him this year.
