The Commitment?

Postby Johnny Rock » Wed Oct 22, 2003 3:41 pm

Can someone please elaborate on The Commitment? It appears that since Turner and Copeland announced such a plan that we have gotten significantly worse in athletics. Does the Commitment entail allowing the coaches to recruit on a level playing field with the other Division 1 schools in Texas? Does the Commitment entail allowing a basketball coach to continue to stay when he has only made post season once which was the NIT? Does the Commitment entail getting embaressed several times a year in football including getting humiliated by your biggest rival TCU? Does the Commitment entail upgrading basketball facilities and beginning work on Heritage Hall? Just Curious. It appears that Turner, the Board, and Copeland are blowing smoke up everyone's you-know-what.

Hey Johnny...thats a valid point of view. One that I have shared in many moments of frustration. If CUSA happens, I get a little bit more patient. One thing I have to keep reminding myself is how ridiculous the recruiting was until Cavans last year. Remember the days when we didn't have any football committments until after Christmas? I do. We are bottoming out from that, but a couple of Jucos to fill the holes is absolutley essential this year.

My guess is that it will take a commitment of a lot of bucks to join CUSA. You have to give Copeland some credit for the CUSA invite and the improvemnt in our football facilities. The Commiment also stated that SMU would basically pick up the shorts for athletics for a period of years. Recruitng standards have been relaxed and I'm sure that Copeland is trying to work within the framework of the possible to relax them further. Johnny hates Dement so he obviously blames coaching more than restrictions when talking b;ball. I have a novel idea. Let's see what happens in basketball with a more mature team than we have had for a while. If Dement wins 15 or less, I'll be on the bandwagon. If he wins 18 or more, Johnny should shut up. Deal?

Hey Johnny, I do think its a bit odd that you acknowledge that Moody needs a facelift and that recruiting restrictions have existed, yet you expect Dement to produce multiple postseason bids despite that. Maybe you should cut him some slack. There is no question that our basketball program has far outperformed football since Dement has been here. And we do have basketball bragging right over TCU right now...

Hey Hoop Fan,

We do not have BBall bragging rights over TCU. They have made the NCAA a couple of times in the last six years we haven't since 1993.

so what. I guess our football team has bragging rights because we have been to the Cotton Bowl in the last 20 years and they haven't. Also, I think our postseason appearance in the NIT was more recent than any postseason for them. Regardless, the point was we beat them last year. Be mad, disappointed whatever, but quit pouting dude.
