I'm not saying we will, but if we lost any of them, that would suck and be a big problem for any bowl chances the next 2 years.

Go down that list of starters for SMU.

How many are former walkons...that out played the talent that PB knew how to recruit.

I think PJ can get his share of walkons and out recruit PB

What if PJ brings in Zimmer for DC?

Thinking of Sanders, Givens and Aldrick Robinson who has big upside to me. Burley too. Givens might be trapped being a senior, but who knows, didnt stop Dez in basketball. and if those guys go for some reason, then you start to wonder about Willis for sure. Our offense is all we got right now, if a couple of these guys left, it could be ugly.

I'll tell the kid who could likely transfer. Bradley Haynes-grandson of NTSU great Abner Haynes. Probably go play Dodgeball-that's a guess but it makes sense.

I know this keeps being mentioned, but somehow it's not getting through to those in the PJ opposition camp. He will not come to SMU and run a replica of his current Navy offense with our personel. It's nonsensical to begin talk of negative effects on recruiting or how many potential carries our running backs will get.

PJ implemented a hybrid run and shoot at Hawaii, with 4-5 wideouts to stretch the field out and take advantage of audibles and 1 on 1 match ups. This offense has evolved into today's "spread", which has many different faces. Naturally, the last few years he took advantage of a "scheme" that utilized lesser talent, i.e. NO quarterback. However, this veerbone (studied by Belichek) is another way to isolate the defense by "spread"ing the ball around. The two offenses are rooted in the same principles.

He has proven he's an adaptable coach, yet many are convinced we'll be running the ball 50 times a game. Take a breath, there will be option, and there will be 4 wide. See Urban Meyer at Florida. Offense changed from Leak to Tebow, although rooted in the same principles.

I'm not sure why some people are so enamored with running a true "spread" offense at SMU anyway with how deftly we have executed it the last few years.

Are all those top rated going to de-commit from us now? No one wants to come here now.
Offensive skill position types who want to be the centerpiece of an Offense will avoid the veerbone like a plague. I'm telling ou this is a reality repeated over and over through the years. Its simple- School X offers a Top RB with options 25-30 carries a game while a veerbone back gets about 10-12. A Star WR wants to play in a wide-open spread offense-the veerbone offers him 2-3 catches a game. Surely, some of you know enough about recruiting to realize this.
.........Stallion, I already asked you this on a recruiting post. Though I understand your position and the mindset of alot of recruits, fact is all the good one back set teams still rotate their RB's to keep them fresh and show recruits they will play. So fact is regardless of the offense, you seldom see a back who gets the carries he wants in any offense today.

If you don't even consider that the SMU players are considering other options at this point in their college careers, with nothing else to do but go to class, that is BS! Stallion, the points made on this post are dead on. If PJ is the man, and he does not consider the personel on this team and the option is his offense of choice, it will be totally OFFENSIVE! I know for a fact that some players are concerned. Doesn't mean they will transfer, not yet. But why wouldn't they be concerned? It is college and they are being fed only the crap that we and others at the university are feeding them. The question is, will Orsini permit PJ to run the option just to get him signed. I pray that Steve Orsini, the boss, he looks at the players and the potential and tells him, we are not Navy. We are not going to lose our scholarship athletes for a "system" that does not fit here.

If these guys are that big of a babies... transfer..... the team was 1 and 11 last year, can't really hurt to try something new. Synthetically football players are being paid to play by means of free education, so if they want to transfer to valadosta st., and never have any connections or opportunities after college...then let them go... Johnson will win games at SMU, he has won everywhere else. That is fact.

I've watched this scenario play out for 30 years in recruiting and/or coaching changes. I believe Coaches who run specified offenses generally stick with what they know. This ridiculous notion that coaches mold their offense to the skills of their players is the vast exception to the rule. Yes it could happen. But you can't be half way a triple-option/ veerbone and halfway a spread offense. Not enough hours in the day. He will have his work cut out here to convince players of their place in a radically different offense

Hoop...You know better than that...Dez was able to use a graduate degree exception...We didn't have what he wanted (sure!!), he was granted a chance to leave and play the next season...Givens is still an undergrad...He stays...

Way to twist the facts to make it work for you...

Johnson NCAA DIV 1 HEAD COACH RECORD.... 44-29.

This is getting out of hand. We would be lucky to get this guy. We are acting like homeless children who are offered an XBOX but turn it down b/c we want the Wii.
