How much did Flanigan play in his first game?

Did he start or go in because of an injury or the starting QB was ineffective? Who was SMU playing against when Flanigan took the field for the first time? :devil:

Dan Freiberger was actually the starting QB that year. It was against Tulane. Dan had gotten injured and Ramon came in and played. If I remember correctly, he also got hurt as well, a thumb injury to his throwing hand.

I believe RF's injury was against his present employer - the green mean machine to the North

You may be right. I don't remember all that much but I could have sworn he got hurt in that game and gutted it out. The only thing I remember was that it was the first game that I ever marched in as a member of the Mustang Band. I do remember the game against UNT but only because Dennis Parker about nearly had a heart attack because the geeks in the UNT Band cost the football team a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct because they were playing at the wrong time. Pretty funny. Seems so loooooooooong ago. heh One other thing I do remember from that Tulane game, we lost 13-12. From what I remember we had, surprise, a real bad kicking game that cost us.

Flanigan got hurt in game against Tulane and we almost won it but for a FG hitting the upright on the North end zone at Ownby.

He broke his thumb or something and he got his 'first' medical redshirt

I guess I wasn't as senile as I thought. I believe the kicker that year was Russell Anderson. I think we also missed an extra point and had a kicked blocked and returned for a 2 point conversion if I remember correctly.
