Optimism Escapes Me In This Game

Postby methodistmustang » Thu Oct 23, 2003 7:20 pm

Guys, we lost to UTEP. We are going to get killed. This is not the same SMU that was better than Baylor(other than a fumbled punt return) in Waco. Or the team that was narrowly beaten by Nevada in Reno. This is the team that got beat by UTEP. It is a very important game but made less important by the fact that Tulsa is good this year. We have to beat Rice. That's the only game I can see we have a chance in. I hope I am met with strong opposition, but let's face it. If Tulsa doesn't beat us this Saturday they will never beat us. That goes for anyone that we play this year. I've never seen a team lay down in the middle of the season like ours has. I also hope that comment is met with extreme opposition. I don't think this team could beat UL-LA or UL-Monroe or Buffalo or anybody. It isn't lack of talent...it's lack of effort and poor coaching. They give up too easily. When this team steps up and plays with the fire they did in the Nevada and Baylor games I'll watch again. Until then I'll be watching the Ags get beat by real competition.

I don't get you man, you call SMU-The Univerity of Texas and then you say you will be watching the Faggies until further notice. Cmon. Anyway do what you want, but its pretty easy to see why the team was so flat last Saturday...everybody on the team new Bartel was in the doghouse after the Thursday night incident. If we don't bring maximum effort the next two weeks, including Homecoming, then you might be right.

SMU is the University of Texas. But UT is much bigger so they had to destroy in the 80's when we were on the verge of beating them in every category. By the way I'd like to know why Cedric Benson drives a Cadilac Escalade. I mean I'm sure he paid for it with his own money and everything. Now we know why Mack Brown is so terrible. He's paying the wrong players.

I happen to agree that UT did have a hand in getting us the DP. Theres very little doubt in my mind that they couldn't deal with a small school in Dallas getting some of their limelight. Cadillac Escalade huh? Isn't Benson in the farm system for the Dodgers though or did I dream that up? I suppose he has to pay his own tuition if thats true

Dale did his part to embarrass us, but he had no influence on the punishment. UT did, either directly or indirectly. Anybody who thinks they didn't is either naive or wears orange goggles. UT is and always has been one of the most powerful voices in the NCAA.

Benson drives an Escalade because he was prematurely drafted by the Dodgers. That also explains the plasma TV he was retrieving from the apartment he broke into. Personally, I don't blame Benson for trying to get his TV back after it was wrongfully taken from him, just maybe not in the manner that he did it.

Tulsa is a much improved team this year, sorry Stallion, even though they've beaten weaker competition, they beat a Hawaii team, although played a 1,000 miles from home, but still, they won't be the same pushover they've been for the past 7 years. They have a new coach with tons of optimism and a players friendly approach, something invisible on the Hilltop, but maybe that's what we need. Not being a smartass, just optimism that we made the right decision with Bennett.

I don't see how you can say that. The offense will have a completely different look with Phillips. Not that he's better or worse than Tate or Bartel, but because he brings a different set of skills, and none of us has seen him play a game. Even if you snuck in to practice, you have no idea what is going to happen, because no matter how many reps you get in practice, you can't simulate game speed.

Maybe we will get killed. Maybe we'll kill them. (I vote for option B.) But to suggest that you can predict that now is simply foolish. How good is the new starting MLB, Reggie Carrington? I don't know either, until we see him get more game time.

And the more I look at Tulsa's defense, the more I think Phillips won't have to work miracles, because Kincade and Fitzgerald will have a huge day.

UT certainly pushed the NCAA investigating as did the F Aggies. Of course we turned in Dale and Sherill. But UT had its rep on the NCAA Division 1 Committee at that time, I doubt that person recused himself from all deliberations. Wink, wink, nod, nod. Then, when they got investigated and were death penalty eligible, by gosh, they "cooperated" and received a lesser penalty. We got our punishment and we deserved it, but they sure didn't get theirs.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
