Just a crazy idea. Since 2/3s of our stands are empty and our oponents fans outnumbr ours, why not try something new for a couple of years. Give any high school student an end zone ticket for $5. Allow his folks to have the same deal if with a kid. It just might:

1. Fill some seats.
2. Develop some interest in SMU.
3. Attract some future players.

All we need to do then is win.

Wow! You're a marketing genius!...

Btw, they have done better than $5, try free. People don't want free tickets to a bad product.

the problem right now is that SMU can't give tickets away for this product...oh, they can give free tickets away...but can't force anyone to use them.

I agree and have advocated this approach for years. Anyone who was around when the Dallas Cowboys were born in 1960 may recall their attempts to increase attendance for what was a horrible team. That's why Tex Schram had them wearing white jerseys at home...because NFL fans of that ear were accustomed to seeing the Sam Huff/Y.A.Tittle NY Giants in their blue unis, the Jim Brown Cleveland Browns wearing brown, etc... The Cowboys also sold end zone tickets for $5 in those days...and that $5 purchase to any adult allowed them to bring 5 kids under 18 yrs of age for no extra charge.

With the exception of just a few games, SMU should be marketing Dallas this same way. Try to attract some non-SMU people and make it so cheap they come out of curiosity and because they are sports fans. And take advantage of the Boulevard set up by making it more inclusive...more concessions available to the general public in the area by Dallas Hall with activities for kids (I know that some of that exists today...but who outside of SMU knows this?)

And while they're at it, hire more ticket people, more concession people and change the in-and-out policy.

Oh, and win more than once.......

For the UCF game, SMU offered free tickets to DISD kids......you saw how many showed up.

Damn, you just talked to much. It will never happen now. When do some of you people ever know when to shut up? The initial post was good and you just ruined it. We will never get anything done with all these realistic views.

Going a step further, I would recommend going to the local pee wee football leagues of each surrounding city, about a 30-40 mile radius.
Those kids would have a blast coming to a game with their friends & folks & becoming fans of the local college team. Grow up with them so to speak.
I notice its big with the soccer & baseball teams. Have affordable group rates & make it fun. Put em on the scoreboard, let em play on the field after the game.
Have High school games before & after the game.

Lets face it, Pony Up needs some serious help.

All of these suggestions have been in practice for years. Charleston is right, the sad thing is people won't come even when it's free, you can't force them to come.

Hell, if I wasn't an alum, I don't think I'd want to go. I love college football, my favorite sport by far, but unless you paid ME $100 I wouldn't go to a NTSU game and unfortunately that's the level we're playing at.

Damn, just shut up and give away free tickets along with a free food package. Pizza, popcorn or peanuts, and drink. Serve food an they will come.
