that the new Coach will get paid way too much for what he will deliver... and I'm okay with that for a season or two.
Who pays this $1.6MM? It ain't these mysterious "rich" alum-- it's all us season ticket holders who will front the bill for the new HC.
Same way JJ is gonna pay for Romo's 60+MM deal
I think I liked it better when the players got paid more than the coaches

JoePa is an exception to high quality coach's salaries. It is getting to the point that you can barely find a name brand guy for less than a million a year. As far as I'm concerned, I just want to go to a damned bowl game while I'm still a student! I only have one more season left for that possibility! Go Mustangs!
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.

A couple problems with your statement.
Do the math. How many season ticket holders are there? I can guarantee that the math doesn't equal the new salary. In fact it falls well short.
Secondly, All NFL teams split 3.6 billion dollars in TV revenue equally. In the Cowboys case, the share represents over 70% of the revenue. The point is, the Cowboys don't pay salaries off of ticket sales and neither do we.

and your solution is? hire some lame coach for 500K a year and go 1-11?
Same way JJ is gonna pay for Romo's 60+MM deal
and your solution is? let Romo go.....then you can whine about that when he takes another team to the big dance?
C-ya @ Milos!

It's ALWAYS about the money, bro'.
The point is not how salaries are paid, but that these ticket prices for reserved seats will explode next season... and there is no reason except the coach. Same schedule, same team, same stadium, nothing but expectations of the new coach [And I'm still glad PB is gone].
The loyal season ticket holder gets hammered.
As for the C'boys, you're right about the $$$. So, why don't they give a way free passes if it doesn't matter?Same similar deal with Cowboys-- expectations.
New stadium, WOW of Romo etc. Of course, the math DOES work @ $100-200 per ticket x 80,000 people x 8 games will pay for the Romo deal in a single season.
All I'm saying: in ncaa DI FB & the NFL, the tail is starting to wag the dog.

Actually, it is the mysterious "rich" alums that will be footing this.

"ACTUALLY", no.
The mysterious rich alums may 'Pony Up' the money for the 1st year (if at all). It will be revenue going forward.
And a $20 bump/ticket x 6 games with say 5K season ticket holders get you a large share of the $1.6 deal we offer.
I think this salary BS for College FB coaches is wack. Like I said the tail is starting to wag the dog.

i say we hire the next art briles out of nowhere and start paying him a mil AFTER he takes us to a couple bowl games. he'll be leaving for the bcs in 5 years anyway.
and if we raise ticket prices anytime soon, then we'll know what empty seats really look like.

I got a real giggle from this. Good one. It's going to be heck to pay $25,000.00 each for my season tickets. Jtstang...you need to start sneaking in sandwiches if you are going to use one of my seats.
