Texas football players Jones, Henry indicted

Friday, November 30, 2007
By CHIP BROWN / The Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN – Texas football players Andre Jones and James Henry were indicted Thursday by a Travis County grand jury in connection with an alleged robbery in July involving former Texas football player Robert Joseph.

The grand jury returned an indictment on four counts of robbery against Jones, a freshman defensive tackle. Each count is a second-degree felony and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Henry, a redshirt freshman running back, was indicted on charges of retaliation and tampering with physical evidence, both of which are third-degree felonies. Each charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Bill Hines, who represents Henry, told the Austin-American Statesman that his client was looking forward to clearing his name in court.

"The only thing he's guilty of is being a good friend," Hines said.

Ariel Payan, Jones' lawyer, declined comment to the newspaper.

According to police, Joseph and Jones broke into an apartment in southeast Austin on July 27 and stole cash, cell phones and gaming equipment.

According to arrest records, Henry admitted in taped, jailhouse phone calls from Joseph that he assaulted a victim from the alleged robbery and also disposed of a backpack containing items stolen in the alleged robbery.

Jones and Henry have been suspended indefinitely by coach Mack Brown.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

What a horrible life altering decision these two guys made. They had a chance to play football for one of the nation's top programs, get a free education, and potentially have a chance to play professionally. Their lives are ruined now. What a waste.
Back off Warchild seriously.
