forget it. This is a signal that "those things" are never happening.

My thoughts exactly....why aren't more people bringing up the same concerns...we are the worst program in America for a reason, and it ain't PB or tackling!!!

Why is PJ seriously considering SMU when he has turned down UNC, NC State, etc.?

Of course you are not gonna turn down UnC and come here. makes no sense. which leads to the conclusion Unc never offered him the job. YOu think they wanted him over Butch Davis? haha. The only plausible explanastion that johnson turned down any state school/BCS school to come here is that he has a pollyanna view of the student athlete. he loves to coach good boys. please.

Who has confirmed he's considering it? Navy's SID said no one has contacted Navy or PJ about it.

Turner said the following in an interview for today's Daily Campus:

"Turner said a hire has yet to be finalized because the candidates SMU is looking at are still working at their current jobs and their seasons have not finished yet.... He said the school has been talking primarily with representatives of the candidates rather than directly contacting them."

Thanks Navy Football.
Very interesting behind the scenes info.
I am on board with him becoming our coach.
It sounds like a good fit.
He appears to like a challenge where others have failed.
And SMU is a big challenge.
Hopefully he can work his magic here too!
Btw...Thank you for your service to the country.

He was offered the NC State job. People hating on johnson literally have no idea. The man is a masterful coach that gets more w/less. Screw the spread. Just get Ws, and thats what Johnson does

why, because he's been waiting for the opportunity to come to SMU? i am not hating on Johnson, he is probably a fabulous guy and a great football coach. Does not mean he will be automatically successful here or that he is the right fit.

Thank you for serving our country.

But in a lot of cases, the SIDs are either the last to know or told to say nothing .

Maybe people just like the name SID -- acronym -- easier to remember.

Hi, I'm an Army alum who posted the other day in another thread. This is just my opinion based off observation of the guy, but my belief is that PJ badly wanted to be the coach who ended the Notre Dame streak. I think that, prior to accepting a job, he sets specific goals for himself and refuses to move on until those goals are met. He isn't hurting for money, and while I'm sure he would want to be paid his market value, I don't think that's his primary concern. This is a guy who, first and foremost, wants to be challenged. He wants to go to places where no one has won recently and where everyone says he can't win, and then prove everyone wrong.

The truth is, I'd rather he stay at Navy myself, even though they've beaten us five times in a row (which had better end tomorrow, damn it). I'm worried that Navy won't be able to continue their success without him, and I honestly believe the only thing that will make our administration wake up and make a great hire is the continued success the Naval Academy.

One other thing, please don't take offense at whatever Navy fans might be saying about you guys on their message board. You have to understand, they have been dealing with this stuff for three years now, and every year it gets worse. Every time a school has an opening, they get a group of fans from that school on their message board boasting about how they are going to take their coach and acting in a very condescending, dismissive way towards Annapolis. They're just sick of it (especially considering it always happens during Army/Navy week or during the lead-up to their bowl game), and are lashing out as a result. Plus, a lot of people are unaware of SMU's pre-death penalty football success and the prestigious nature of the school. Anyway, good luck with whoever you guys end up hiring. You've suffered long enough in my opinion; you deserve some football success.

No one said he'd automatically be successful here, but track records mean something. How is a Bowden/Neuheisel/Fran a better fit w/our academic standards, than a guy that is getting it done at better school than SMU? A guy that is coveted nationally, gets more w/less, a doesn't need the best recruits in Texas to win in CUSA.
