How is the offense "simplified"?

Post by PonySnob »

All season, the SMU offense has looked pretty simple, hand-off left, hand-off right, run up the middle. Now Bennett keeps saying that it has been simplified for Phillips and that Tate Wallis will have to be brought in because Phillips does not know all of the playbook.

The simplification involves a reduction in the number of check-offs and audibles available to the QB. This could be a tough week for Phillips to make his first start, because Tulsa runs an unusual defense. So I would guess that rather than asking him to look through a series of available targets, the coaches will ask him to look at a couple of options, and if they're not there, get rid of the ball quickly.
