They can report it all they want, but it doesn't sound like Johnson will make a final decision until next week. Odds are that he will go to Georgia Tech because of the BCS connection unless he stays at Navy, which may be increasing his package to $1.8 million in an effort to keep him. All this is heresay, however, and hopefully we will have final answers by Wednesday of this next week!

Actually, they raised his package to $1.8 million last year in an effort to stave off NC State. They seem ready to double that to keep him this year!

For example, Navy coach Paul Johnson, who was a candidate this week to take over at North Carolina State before the school settled on Boston College coach Tom O’Brien, is reportedly close to getting a sizable raise that would bump his incentive-laden salary to nearly $1.8 million [effective in 2007].

According to the Baltimore Sun, Johnson’s six-year contract, which includes an annual, incentive-based rollover clause that will kick in Jan. 1, currently is worth about $1.3 million per year [as of Dec 2006].
