Not if his agent says he isn't interested.

he wouldnt be interested in a pay raise?

Perhaps not. Would you be interested in a pay raise to move to Baghdad?

As of 3:25 p.m. EST today (Sunday), no officials have contacted Navy for permission to speak with Coach Johnson. There is a 8:30 p.m. conference call planned tonight for the Poinsettia Bowl. I'm sure the question will come up and I will try to listen in on the call. If I am unable to get away from the home duties, I will be talking to Coach Johnson in the next few days as his schedule permits.

As always if you have a question that you would like me to ask the Coach, send me an email at [email protected] and I'll do my best to get it in. Don't put the question here because then I can't take credit for it.

I usually like to start my conversations with Coach off with an update on how many "Hand's Off Our Johnson" shirts we have sold. I can't believe that I have to tell him that there are still some remaining! Ok, I don't really

Stallion, why would Orsini have to get permission from Navy officials to speak with Johnson? If he is our man, the talking has been done. All this contacting school officials to get permission is when two people don't know each other like Orsini and Johnson do. They probably talk once a month just as friends. I wish all of you will be a little bit more realistic about the hiring crap. Every HC that Orsini knows are more than likely his friends. Ask yourself this, how many times a month do you call your friends? This is not rocket science people. We are making it way more complicated than what it is. We either have a coach who will be named whenever, or we will get the scraps that will be left over after everybody has hired a HC.

NCAA Rules require you to contact an AD before negotiating directly with or interviewing a candidate-other than that nothing

Stallion is quite optimistic about the idea that people follow rules and laws. Yet, at the same time, he is one of the single most cynical people on the board. Furthermore, he also struggles to refrain from just plain making [deleted] up to bolster his opinions

Who policies the indirect contact? For example: Johnson calls Orsini when he gets the SMU job. It goes like this, hey Steve, this is Paul, congrats on the new position, I know you willl make SMU proud. Stevie O says, hey I may need a HC here in a couple of years, this guy PB is not my kind of guy. What do you think? Paul replies, hey anything for you buddy. I owe my position here a Navy to you and I have done about as much as I can here. Stevie O says, hey give me a couple of years, this President is a pretty tough cookie, you know with all this DP [deleted]. We have a pretty good nuecleus of players here. PJ says, call me when you need me.

And we all sang, "Thats what friends are for."

The Washington Post reported Johnson as saying, I have not been contacted and am not leaving. He added however, that he would listen to any offers made, but it would take something big for him to leave. In other words, "if someone opens up the bank and spills all of the money out, I'll listen. BTW - If I was Orsini, I'd be hitting up as many Army alums as I could find to sweeten the pot. I'm sure after six years they want Johnson gone and might contribute to the coaching search fund.

Bingo - and we're the last school that can afford to sidestep NCAA rules in football.

Leak about Johnson, and KABOOM, the whole world thinks he's ours for 36 hours.

Get the other party to listen up.
Actually not a bad theory. Hope you're right.

This would be a good time for Samurai Stang to post about the art of war and deception.

Stallion - i think you maybe incorrect - i do not believe that there is an NCAA rule that requires you to get permission from the AD before you talk with the head coach of that school - if I remember correctly that rule was put up this past year but was not passed --

The only way this could be done without getting permission is if PJ resigns and is available!!! I feel all of this must be done. I think if PJ is serious, we would get permission and bring him in to see all the possitives about this job...stadium etc. He may have been here before and may know enough but all this is usually looked at...waiting to hear that we have asked for and gotten permission...the the upfront interview and meeting the board come Thursday and Friday but maybe even announced at halftime of Wednesday's basketball game...durn dont we all want to know.
If he doesn't resign, permission will be asked for....Go Mustangs!!!

PJ is under contract to Navy. Unless someone is granted permission to talk to him, SMU could be sued for interference with a personal services contract.
