Who knows? You! You know! You know Paul Johnson and he tells you these things?!
Hell no, you don't.

Thats my point.....you don't either!
You are not privy to this guy's motivations.
Neither of us are.....

But yet you come on here as "SMUfan4ever" (yeah sure)
implying how Navy is so great and SMU is the $hits.

Again MAYBE there are a million reasons
why he would want to move on. You appear to imply
the man would be crazy to move on to SMU, but you
have no idea whats going on in the man's life.

So you ASSume all (or one) of these is true.

No I don't assume, you do.
Can you not read?
If you can read....it says "MAYBE" in front of each of those possibilities.
Hello?....... Earth to SMUfan4ever?....Over?

Actually, regarding warm weather, his daughter is on record saying she wants to live where it snows. Please, do research before posting something like that.

You are the one that needs to read/research before you post. I never said anything about his kids preferring warmer weather, I said he may prefer warmer weather. I did say one reason may be that his kids are not happy there. And that could be true and have nothing to do with weather. And by the way, the weather isn't the point anyway, the point is there are many reasons why he may wish to move-on that your original posts seems to ASSume could not exist.

Are you dense enough to think that is what he has in mind when he says a deal has to be really "special" for him to leave his current diggs? Special = a few more bucks (they'll match our offer anyway) and hot chicks (he's 50, married with a daughter in high school.)

Get real.

There's a great article somenoe posted on PF interviewing Johnson's wife and daughter. It gives great insight on how PJ thinks. She is quoted at saying "just tell Paul he can't do it and he will want to prove you wrong." Or something to that point. What she was talking about was when PJ took the Navy job. Apparently everyone told him not to take the job, it was a dead in job and no one could win at Navy consistantly. Does that sound like the SMU job?

My point is most succuessful coaches have high opinions of themselves and there abilities. PJ has done everything he can do at Navy there's nothing more to prove. He's ready for a change and a new challenge.

But, SMU is like climbing Mount Everest. There are some challenges that coaches you just say no to. They could kill you or damage you for life.

Who knows.....
maybe he hates his boss
maybe his wife is not happy there
maybe his kids are not happy there
maybe he needs a change of scenery
maybe he likes warmer weather
maybe he wants a big new challenge
maybe he "clicks" with Orsini
maybe he loves being the "hero" & wants to do it here

Exactly. Who knows? You! You know! You know Paul Johnson and he tells you these things?! Hell no, you don't. So you ASSume all (or one) of these is true.

haha, well last time i checked it snows in Big D a lot more that in RDU area!!!

Really??

Raleigh averages 58 inches a year. Dallas averages 44 inches a year.

http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/onl ... wfall.html

Research, people! Research!

Raleigh 7.5

Dallas 2.6

Reading is fundamental.

sorry, no research here as I have a job and have wasted too much time already...my point is, its not like either RDU or Dallas will be mistaken for Alaska anytime soon...

the snow in both places is negligible. maybe we can have an addendum in PJ's contract for his daughter to have a fake snow machine.

It sounds like Paul Johnson can always go back to Navy if things don't work out for him somewhere else. That's not a bad cushion to fall back on.

It also sounds like he's been targeted by SMU for a while now. He's willing to listen to other offers, but those are probably drying up. The same concerns some SMU fans have about him (option offense, non-traditional recruiting) are probably scaring off bigger programs.

The impression I'm getting is Georgia Tech is looking for a splashy name. They have to compete with UGA for attention. They may have talked to Johnson already, and he may be getting the sense he's low on their list, hence the Gerald Ford plane to Baltimore today to wrap up the deal. Coaches want to go where they're most wanted, naturally.

I think if it comes down between us and Duke, I lean toward us. I'm biased, obviously. But it's easier to win in C-USA than the ACC. The competition isn't as great, and you have access to Texas recruits. Also, at Duke basketball will always be No. 1. A lot of football coaches can't deal with the concept of working at a school where football isn't the big dog (and vice-versa for hoops coaches at football schools). Just depends on the person and their ego.

Another thing about SMU vs. Duke: Both jobs are springboards to a big-time gig. I think you can get to a big-time job quicker from SMU than Duke, although it worked out for Spurrier.

I think we've been in on Johnson from the start, and I think that will eventually pay off once others have dropped Johnson from their list - or he senses he's too low on their lists.

Big Daddy how long have you been around SMU football? If SMU is so damn bad why the hell are you on this board everyday. What keeps bringing you back? What brought JWill to SMU? Your his dad or uncle or sombody close to him apparently? You are the most negative person on this board. Things change and nothing is constant. Not even SMU losing. I remember when SMU beat TCU 19 out of 21 season, that changed didn't it. For those 20 years TCU had 2 winning seasons and probably no bowls. That job before Fran looked like "Mount Everest" as you put it. Did it change? How many bowl games has TCU been to in the last 10 years, a lot? Once the playing field is leveled as far as recruiting there's nothing TCU offers that's better than SMU. Thing will change here too. Now take your negative puke over to another board. I'm frankly tired of it!

Oh, I'm sorry you are tired of my negative puke. I will try and be a little more positive about 20 years of losing. I was around SMU football before you were born obviously, so I know the history and what we are capable of. I am on this board for the same reasons you are, because I can. Ask JWill what brought him to SMU and stop relating everything I post to JWill. I have not mentioned his name since the season was over. Is he a HC prospect? I could care less about TCU or any other school other than SMU. Once the playing field is leveled, when? Its been 20 years. Now, I am on several other boards mind you. Speaking of negative puke. What was this post all about. Are you mad at me for stating the truth?

Wow. BigDaddy is in his late 60's and apparently the dimentia is setting in.

It's the truth how you see it not me? I would call it an opinion. What your tie's to SMU? If it's so damn bad, what keeps bringing you back on this board everyday?

Close. Not dimentia, but oldtimers. Now, respect your elders like you were taught.

Thats what this board is, an opinion board. Everybody on this board is stating their opinions except you obviously! If my opinions bother you that much maybe you need to take a look at what I am saying. If its garbage let it go, move on. But you know I speak the truth. I have been on this board longer than what you realize 91. My ties to SMU run deeper than what you know. What are your ties?
