Now that PJ doesn't appear to be a lock ...

Who are everyone's top choices?

My top 5:

1. Rick Neuheisel
2. Ty Willingham
3. Tommy Bowden
4. Turner Gill
5. Jeff Bower

Actually, those have been my top 5 all along .... Don't know how realistic any of those candidates appears to be in Steve-O's mind, but they'd all be good in my book.

Thoughts?

Nope - Tommy (if he leaves Clemson). Beat his old man a few times, which is no small accomplishment, and there's got to be a reason nobody has even come close to hiring Terry in 9 years. Hell, Mike Price got hired after spending state taxpayer money on strippers, and O'Leary got hired after lying on his resume. There's got to be fire behind the Terry Bowden smoke.

Terry Bowden got fired from Auburn for sleeping with a trustee's daughter. Not sure why that would necessarily preclude him from getting another job, but my guess is that the university presidents won't let their ADs take a chance on something like that happening again. And it probably boils down to $$$. The insurance policy they would have to take out on a hire like that would be huge.

You really think Tommy Bowden - who has already been offered an extension at Clemson - would leave there to come here?

If we lose our Johnson my choices would be:
1. Mike Shula
2. Gary Barnett
3. Terry Bowden
4. Chan Gailey
5. Rick Neuheisel

I think Shula would be a wow hire. Barnett could turn this program around (if he could do that for Northwestern...). Bowden is a good coach, if he has the desire to get back into it. Gailey has a name in the Dallas area that might connect with parents of recruits. Neuheisel clearly is a quality candidate with his experience. Others that would be on my list would be David Cutcliffe (ties to Turner), a solid coach, less of a wow, but better than what we've had, and Marty Schottenheimer (ties to the Hunts) is worth a call as well.
