Postby Tipoff96 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 10:18 pm

C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DELISHA WILLS, SMU
6-0, So., F, Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite HS

Wills averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting a solid 61.9 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free throw line in SMU two victories over the weekend.

The Mustangs defeated powerhouse Stephen F. Austin from the Southland Conference, 66-60, before handing North Texas, who was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference, a 68-62 loss in Denton.

The power forward stepped up against North Texas as she recorded 17 points and had 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She also picked up the bulk of the scoring responsibilities as SMU All-America candidate Janielle Dodds was battling illness and foul trouble against the Mean Green.

Against SFA, Wills produced her second highest offensive outing with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting (.750). She also had five rebounds, two blocks and two steals in just 26 minutes of play.

Wills currently ranks among C-USA's top 15 in eight categories including 10th in scoring with 14.0 points and 12th in rebounds per game, averaging 6.9. She also appears ninth in free throw percentage (.829); 12th in blocks per game (1.0) and defensive rebounds (4.29); 14th in field goal percentage (.492) and offensive rebounds (2.57) plus 15th in steals per game (1.57).

This is Wills' first C-USA Player of the Week honor.

Isn't this back-to-back with Dodds from last week?

Great job ladies. Go get Coppin St. and UTA.

SMU's Delisha Wills Named C-USA Player Of The Week

Sophomore forward leads Ponies to wins over SFA, UNT

Dec. 3, 2007

DALLAS (SMU / Conference USA) - Sophomore forward Delisha Wills averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 61.9 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line to lift the SMU women's basketball team to back-to-back victories this week over Stephen F. Austin and North Texas. For her efforts, Wills was named Conference USA Player of the Week.

Wills' honor is the second consecutive such accolade for the Mustangs; senior All-America candidate Janielle Dodds won the honor last week.

The Mustangs defeated powerhouse Stephen F. Austin from the Southland Conference, 66-60, before handing North Texas, which was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference, a 68-62 loss Saturday in Denton. The victories extend SMU's winning streak to six straight games, the longest streak for the Ponies since the 2004-05 season, when they won eight straight.

Against SFA, Wills produced her second-highest offensive outing with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting (.750). She also had five rebounds, two blocks and two steals in just 26 minutes of play.

Wills currently ranks among C-USA's top 15 in eight categories including 10th in scoring with 14.0 points and 12th in rebounds per game, averaging 6.9. She ranks ninth in free throw percentage (.829); 12th in blocks per game (1.0) and defensive rebounds (4.29); 14th in field goal percentage (.492) and offensive rebounds (2.57) plus 15th in steals per game (1.57).

This is Wills' first C-USA Player of the Week honor.

The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum with a pair of home games this week: at 7 p.m. Thursday against Coppin (Md.) State, and at 7 p.m. Saturday against Texas-Arlington. For a complete schedule and for ticket information, log on to SMUMustangs.com or call 214-SMU-GAME.

If this was a slam, then your criticism is incorrect. What you pulled and what was posted were virtually the same thing. However, the mention of the second consecutive was not on the original.

Even so, it's great to have this back to back.

Where do you think C-USA gets its player info? From SMU. Of course there are going to be some similarities...

Wills isn't 6 feet tall, at least not according to the school (which lists her at 5-10).

How's this for a compliment? I talked to a (non-SMU) coach who said "(incoming freshman) Frank Otis is so good, he's like a male version of Delisha Wills."

Referring, I assume, to hustle, rebounding ferocity, rebounding, etc. Pretty flattering, if you ask me.

I bet he's throwing that around when his HS opponents talk trash.

Honestly, that IS a very nice compliment, though. Wills is tearing it up.
