And of course, if he had not reached an agreement we would have undoubtedly put him on a SWA plane at his expense to fly back. Clearly this is a done deal.

Larry Coker or possibly Miami offensive coordinator, Patrick Nix?
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

It would not have been classy to arrange a press conference on the off chance he says "I'll take it"
So where we were wrong in our thinking yesterday was our assumption that he was coming to Dallas for the announcement he had been hired. But what happened was we flew him in for the “interviewâ€

re:"They then flew Johnson and his wife to Texas to see the SMU campus today"
Gosh what a couple of beautiful days in December to take Coach Johnson and his wife on a tour of Dallas/SMU.
Can't hurt!

Cam Cameron--he has the most SMU-like record.

Nah, its Jimmy Johnson. BTW, when the Johnsons land at BWI, the wind chill will be approximately zero. I hope the weather in Dallas yesterday was nice. Funny how walking off a plane from a warm place to a 40 mph wind on a 35 degree day, makes one think about warmth.

I wonder if his agent was here as well from Atlanta. I would think that would be necessary if there was any contract talk although I guess it could be done by email, phone and fax.

No one closes a "big deal" except "face to face"! No faxes, no face-books, no telephones and no text messages work in trying to close a deal.

Nebraska closed the deal with Pelini without even having an agreement on the financial terms. Reports today say that those will most likely be worked out in the next couple of weeks.

His agent, Jack Reale might be in MIA and the plane is headed there after dropping off either both Johnson's or the Mrs. Johnson to complete the legal part.

Or, possibly Gerald Ford is in the mood for some paella after the crabs he ate last night.

Nice try, I had to close a huge real estate deal recently and everything was done by telephone conference calls, emails, and fax. Parties were in Cleveland, Nantucket, Boston, New York, DC, Chicago, Palm Springs, and San Francisco. It was the kind of deal that in the past would have required everyone to meet and work through it. Face to face deals are not required anymore.
