All I can say is that there IS nothing to offer. If someone had some great idea that would save this team, they would be using it. Honestly, I was pissed when I realized Tate was back in, too. I drove 4 hours, painted my face and hair, and that's what I got. Honestly? The hijinks in the stands were WAY more entertaining.
I know it's frustrating, but we have to wait. We're not gonna turn this season around, PERIOD. Put a fork in us. We're done.
The only advice I can give is to WAIT. Come to the games, give your money to the program by buying tickets and WAIT.
Good things come to those who wait.

As for me? I'll keep on playing my trumpet and wishing that things'll get better. I just don't know what else to do.

I agree with everything that's been said here, but I have to disagree with the comment about penalities. Most of those were frustration penalties, and in previous games, we've actually accrued less penalties than our opponents.

I'm dumbfounded my Bennett's decision not to keep Phillips in the game. If you guys honestly think Bennett has a great FB mind, please show me some evidence.

I agree that Phillips should have stayed in somehow. I was attempting to read what Bennett said about the situation. If it is an unexpected defense, OK, take him out for one series and figure something out and put him back in. Fake the hand-off to KK and bootleg right, bootleg left, bootleg pass.... who knows. Make them react to us. We are trying to out think ourselves.

And somehow Parcells coached the Cowboys out of those false starts. They drilled and drilled it. I do not accept that false starts and off-sides is not coaching, especially in that quantity.

Hey echo:

Very mature reply. Do you not realize that SMU has been the laughing stock of college football since the death penalty. It is time to build a program rather than just win a game or two. If you need a winner that fast, drive north and stop at Norman.

Oh come on. It wasn't THAT cold! I didn't even put my jacket back on until the second half! Cold is when it's snowing and the wind is blowing and the temp is below freezing-- AND you are still outside at night watching a football game. Ah-- but I digress. Sometimes I really miss home. :)

SMU has had 5 different starters at QB in less than 3 seasons. When was the last time we had a single starter for the entire year? One of the problems with all these different kids starting at such a young age is that we throw them into the meat grinder and kill their confidence. Protecting Phillips at this time may not satisfy the fans but this kid looks like a real strong athlete and I would hate for him to be ruined early in his career. I for one can be patient to let some of these talented kids develope.

Our overall talent is the worse in a long time. We have huge gaps to fill at key positions. Whether we have red shirt or true freshman that can step up next year I don't know. We may have to invest a few scholarships in JUCOs to fill some gaps.

This team is having a terrible year but we can only go up form here (I am trying my darnest to be positive but I will admit is hard).

Ponyte, I think the problem that people have is that the redshirt should not have been burned if he wasn't going to play significant time. If he isn't ready--and I don't know how he couldn't be with this limited playbook--then why burn his red-shirt? Bennett made a tactical error in the Tulsa game. He thought that he could get Phillips some time but that Wallis would win the game like last year. It has been announced that Phillips will start against Fresno. This makes sense. Hopefully he will play the entire game. You don't burn red-shirts on quality players unless you play them. Personally I don't see any upside to playing Phillips this late in the season but that decision has already been made and there is no taking it back. Whatever happened to Ashton Nixon? He could have run this offense for the rest of the year, with probably the same final record, and Phillips would have had 4 full years remaining. I am not in charge. They don't call me up and ask me who to play.

That is why Bennett said he would play Phillips for the rest of the season. To give him time to develop. Playing Wallis at this point is senseless.

With the exception of TCU we do not have any defensive powers on our schedule. And that includes Fresno. They are bad defensively. They are dead last in rushing defense in terms of yards per carry. And that is dead last in the country. Their pass defense is only average. This is the perfect time to play Phillips and it is not a meat grinder. Commit to it and do it, don't waffle.

Of course Fresno is strong offensively now that Pinegar is back at QB and we will be hard pressed to win but it is perfect for getting QB experience.

As a follow-up to my previous post can someone tell me why Ashton Nixon is not playing out the string this year instead of Phillips. We could have used Phillips for 4 years instead of 3 IMHO.

How did UH hang 55 on the Frogs last weekend? Turnovers, special teams, or did they just chew up the Frogs defense? If its the latter, their defense may not be up to its billing. Of course the Frogs slapped 62 on the Cougers, was that from turnovers, or did their offense break out of its shell.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

they have always had a huge weakness in the secondary-just not many teams are capable of exploiting it. Remember Tulane torched them-even last year Cincy made they big comeback. TCU's defensive prowess is run defense. Unfortunately for SMU they are likely to be the kind of team that will drill us since they will neutralize KK and we won't be able to exploit the pass. It could get VERY UGLY this year.

Houston has an awesome offense. The TCU D is very good but that Houston offense is something. It is like watching a fast-break basketball team. Exciting team to watch. Their first year head coach is outstanding. Houston needs some D and they will be excellent.
