National title at SMU? He can at Georgia Tech. Why would an up and coming stud [deleted] coach come here? Money? Surely Tech and others (if he waits another year..) could come up with as much if not more cash v. SMU..Prestige? Is SMU a more prestigious job compared to Georgia Tech others? As much as I love SMU, I am not sure it is.. Challenge? SMU would be one hell of a challenge, but playing in the ACC, or SEC, or Big East, etc. is also challenging...I am beginning to feel like PJ is not coming and we are dipping a little deeper into the soup pot, hopefully, there is a big [deleted] hunk of ham down there that tastes good...??!? If it is PJ, I am thrilled, happy..but, not sure he is going to take the "ParkCities Bait"...

SMU's Johnson can measure up to any of those other schools & conferences.

Seriously, I think SMU is a prestigious job because of its tradition and history. Some of the greatest college football players ever came from SMU, and a lot of them set the standard for their positions in the NFL (Forrest Gregg, Raymond Berry, etc.) Who came out of GT?

Not necessarily if the coach assumes, as most coaches do, that he has the ability to turn the program into a winner. He would look at it as the opportunity for a restoration to glory for one of the most glorious programs.

If he wins all his games here in a few years, we could go to the BCS.

I talked to some HS coached today who previously worked with PJ in college and some college camps. He is a turnaround coach I was told. He knows how to come into a program like SMU and utilize the 2 and 3 star recruits we have. His offense generates around smaller offensive linemen and a QB that throws touchdowns. He pounds and pounds his running game with patience and consistency, and all of a sudden the running game either bust one for long yardage or he hits you with a TD pass. What impressed me the most. He gets the best out of the 2 & 3 star recruits. That is all we get here. I am not sold on the triple option or PJ coming to SMU, but I am sold on this philosophy of coaching. We need someone who can get the best out of his players and coaches. One area PB fell short.

If he's getting lukewarm reception by the BCS schools (because of that bad rep for running a boring offense at Navy) but still aspires to have a shot at a BCS program (one with a legitimate chance to win in football...not Duke), then I think SMU is tempting because he can open up his offense and if he turns this trainwreck around while showing he can fully utilize the talent he has...he's still plenty young enough that the jumbo contract offer from a BCS program will come.

I think there's a chance he will be thinking that way. And after watching his Ga Southern teams, I'm not the least bit concerned about his ability to put an offensive football team on the field.

Lees-McRae Junior College where his offense ranked 6th nationally

Hawaii where the Rainbows won the WAC for the first time ever. He was the OC.

Georgia Southern where he won two 1-AA titles as the HC.

And now Navy..............
