Johnson finalist for Liberty Mutual coach of the year award

West Virginia University coach Rich Rodriguez was named a finalist Tuesday for the Liberty Mutual coach of the year award.


The other Division I-A finalists are Kentucky’s Rich Brooks, Mississippi State’s Sylvester Croom, Navy’s Paul Johnson, Kansas’ Mark Mangino, Penn State’s Joe Paterno, Georgia’s Mark Richt, Ohio State’s Jim Tressel, Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville and Illinois’ Ron Zook.


Fans may vote on the finalists at www.coachoftheyear.com from today through Dec. 15. Four winners, one from each division of college football, will be announced on ABC-TV at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 29. The winners will be recognized at the College Football Hall of Fame and receive $50,000 to support civic and charitable activities and $20,000 in scholarship for his school’s alumni association.
