I can be convinced to take the SMU job, but no one has convinced me yet.

fortunately, you're not the one that has to be convinced.

If GTech just wasn't going to happen, I would just sit tight at NAVY. Ask Navy for more money, win bowl game , beat Notre Dame again, jump into a legitimate school next year.

He's interested because everyone says it can't be done. He has more confidence than you do that he can take a "hopeless" program and turn it around. I'm sure he also sees good facilities right in the middle of a recruiting hotbed. He seems like the guy that would love to turn David into a giant killer.

This is a huge & fun challenge I'll admit. But isn't taking the job at Arkansas, GT, UCLA, Michigan, Washington State a big challenge too? They are 2nd tier programs in powerhouse conferences. The answer is yes. Coaching would be so much more fun at those schools too. Every game would be sold out, you would have some amazing talent to work with, you would be a God in your respective college city.

I would take PJ in a heartbeat, but at the same time, I would question his judgement because there is no way I would take this job if I were him with where he is at right now is his career.

he would want the job over Navy because even though C-USA sucks, its still a conference. and we all know that if you are in a conference, you have a better chance to go to a bowl game and get paid more than if you were an independent

Honestly the Middies hit it on the head...the ceiling here at SMU is much higher than at Navy.

As for reasons why not GT:

- Tenuta - Though he is one of the top 5 D-Cord. No one likes to have their coaches picked for them. And heaven help him if Tenuta leaves because even if GT gives up 6 a game, under Tenuta it would have been 3.
- Salary - reports are that GT wanted him to take a pay cut to coach there and about half what we are willing to pay him supposedly.
- Launching Pad - PJ wants the super bigtime program and GT is not that. He is only goign to get the super major jobs by winning championships (conference). He is not going to win the ACC or any other championship at GT.

1917, 1928, and 1952 don't count for much at this point. Open era of college football, they only have one--1990. (Which is equal to the number of games we won this year, so we probably have the edge.)

GT won a national championship in 1990. I forgot about that one. Now that is impressive. We have had one winning season since then. GT has been bowling about every year since then. You are a dumb [deleted] if you come to SMU PJ.

if PJ was only reading the boards.... GT is already crucifying him and half the fans on the Stinger dont even want him.

IF he comes here, he will be embraced, and has a huge upside potential.. GT is expecting wins at GA, the Conf, and Natl Titles...

Given his attitude and approach at Navy, i would think the grass is greener smu (assuming SO and company is committing to the program as much as we think they are).

Quick someone print out a copy of the "Guess whose plane is going to Baltimore" thread and fax it to GJF's plane in Miami. He can fly up to Atlanta and present it to PJ before he goes into his meeting!

You know, that's a pretty good idea for a shirt. Thanks!
