Before any annoucement...

Postby anurep » Wed Dec 05, 2007 12:55 pm

Doesn't PJ have to meet with his players to let them know of his decision if he is leaving...or at least show them courtesy to inform them? Therefore, I would think an official annoucement would be Friday at the earliest.

I would recommend against announcing on a Friday. You only announce bad news on Friday because Saturday's is the least read paper.

I have had conversations with athletic department staff in the past and they get the news cycle. I doubt they would announce on Friday unless they had to.

The Navy boards seem to think Friday would be a bad day to announce a departure, being it is Pearl Harbor Day and all. That would be a bad coincidence.

See Coach Fran. It is not necessary to address the players before hopping on a plane and leaving town for a new job. I would hope and assume he would have the character to address his team first.

No reason he can't make a decision today, get back to Annapolis from Atlanta, meet with the players tonight, and then on to his new destination in the morning for a press conference tomorrow.

I assume that he's had his meetings, now its time for him to hunker down in his agent's office in Atlanta and sort through the offers and let his agent do his dancing with the suitors.

I personally don't want Johnson, but if you got your Man I would recommend not [deleted] around and tie your coach down as soon as possible. See SMU Bill McCartney's Fiasco. Remember SMU gave him an extra day to think about it. Who in the hell cares what day it is. Seriously there are other pressing issues that take precedence like a rapidly dwindling recruiting calandar and finding assistant coaches

Also chances are that if PJ does take our job, he will still hang around to coach Navy in the bowl game. Its not like Fran just up and flying away never to be heard from again.
