Cheer up, look at Frogs record

Postby geno » Mon Oct 27, 2003 10:49 am

When we get too down, why not look back a few years. It goes in cycles. In 1974, tCU was 1-10. In 1975 it was 1-10. In 1976 it was 0-11. TCU scored 13 wins in the next SEVEN years, losing 60. TCU now surely deserves to be a little cheerful, don't you think? They play such a weak schedule they'll never hit the big time with it, but they've now hit the "middle-sized" time, and don't we wish we were there?

Are they in the top 10 this week? They will go to a BCS bowl if they win out.

Because of their strength of schedule, even if they go undefeated, they won't crack the top six in order to qualify. Less so, but still a small factor is that many of their wins have been very close against mid-major opponents. They will need to schedule "strong" BCS schools in the future to have a chance. :hmm:

They don't deserve to go to a BCS bowl. If somehow they do get in, they will get their butts whipped and the BCS will never have to let any other non-BCS school in ever again.

To say this Mike, is also to say that if the rolls were reversed, and SMU was unbeaten that the Ponies would not deserve a BCS shot. There is no way any team in the WAC or CUSA could play enough OOC quality games and still play the conference games that would make the BCS stand up and take notice. Somehow the BCS BS has got to be broken so that everyone has an equal chance at the $. Unfortunately, the $ is what it's all about these days. It bothers me a great deal that UT and A$M excluded TCU and SMU from the ability to get the same paydays that they do. Does it not bother you?

Once again, they only need to get to 12th place to "qualify". It is 6th to guarantee a spot, which in the past may have been the same thing but with the political pressure from the non-BCS this year and the media focus I think top 10 will surely get them in.

Oh, and by the way they are in 12th place now in the BCS and are currently qualified. If they win out they will not move down as their schedule strength will not get lower than it is now.

According to ESPN on why the Frogs might not make a BCS bowl. Please see the section concerning our schedule! Looks like SMU might mess up our chances for a BCS bowl....(not by beating us mind you) I've been cheering for you guys all year. Please go out and win some games! Except your last one of course!

"Playing Leap Frog
The good news for TCU is that it is still undefeated. The bad news is that even with a ranking of No. 14 in the initial BCS Standings, the Horned Frogs are facing an uphill battle just to finish in the top 12, which would make them eligible to be selected for a BCS at-large spot. A top-6 finish (automatic qualification) is totally out of the question.

TCU's schedule is currently among the weaker in the nation, and even though the Frogs have games coming up against Louisville (7-1), Cincinnati (4-3) and Southern Miss (4-3), they will take a big step backward after playing winless SMU in the season finale.

This means that TCU might be able to hold its ground in the computers for a few more weeks but likely will get jumped by a few teams near the end of the year. This is nothing new for the Horned Frogs. In the past three weeks alone, they have been jumped by five teams in the coaches poll, two of which already had a pair of losses.

This article is ridiculous. They mention one ranked team and two other strong teams but then only focus on the winless team as having an impact. Absurd. TCU already has a low SOS and it is not going lower and probably up when considering these last four together.

TCU is already 12th even with their low 4th quartile SOS. If they win out they will not drop in the polls but go up.

Unfortunately for TCU: Navy, Vanderbilt, Arizona and the rest of CUSA did not give them a strength of schedule to put them in the hunt. The fact is however that TCU did beat two BCS teams (albeit low rated ones). Had they beaten Alabama or Maryland, they might of had a chance. I guess we'll just have to beat the Frogs at the end of the year so that they can't blame beating us as the reason why they won't go to a major bowl. If I were the Frogs, I would be praying that the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big East, PAC 10 and Big XII eat their own. I would also be praying that USC, OU, Michigan, Georgia and Miami run the table the rest of the year. If Miami loses to Va. Tech, OU loses to OSU, or USC loses to Washington State, Ohio State beats Michigan, TCU gets bumped out if they had a chance. You know the four games are going to the Top 8 teams all from the BCS.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Actually, if TCU had its conference schedule with SMU's OOC schedule, I think they would be more than worthy for consideration. Unfortunately, the teams that put themselves in the best position to crack in the last few year ended up blowing their chances. Fresno had a couple of good wins a few years ago against Colorado and somone else that pushed them into the top 10 early in the year. They could've made it. N. Illinois had a good shot this year, beating Maryland and Alabama. TCU's OOC schedule is just too weak to make me believe they are a contender.

Good comments from folks, but my point wans't whether tCU deserved BCS consideration or not, but just to observe that things run in cycles. For a lot of years TCU was down, then they got up. That can happen to SMU too, but it apparently took commitment on the part of TCU to get it done. So everybody can feel bad, and should, at what's going on now, but just wait a while, and what goes around comes around.
