All Quiet On The Southern Front
It's been a long day of sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear word on how things went in Atlanta between Navy head coach Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech athletic director Dan Radakovich.
There really isn't any notable news to report, which is probably a good thing for Navy fans.
Anyone who hoped the snowstorm in the greater Baltimore area would prevent Johnson from flying to Atlanta will be disappointed to know it did not. We have confirmed from various sources in the Peach state that Johnson did indeed make it down to Atlanta this afternoon.
Our sources here in Annapolis inform that Johnson planned to return home tonight no matter what. We are told emphatically by folks in the know that Johnson WOULD NOT accept the Georgia Tech job or any other without first informing his players.
In the event Johnson is leaving, you can pretty much rest assured the timeline would begin with a team meeting in Ricketts Hall and proceed with Johnson flying to Atlanta (or elsewhere) to be introduced as head coach.
Beware that a rogue report claiming that Johnson will be named head coach at Georgia Tech could come at some point in the next 24 hours as the various media outlets in the Atlanta area are desperate to break the news and thus might jump the gun.
The Capital will not report that Johnson has left Navy until this reporter hears that news from the head coach himself.
Stay tuned.
