Channel 21 broadcastThe folks at 21 did a pretty nice job. Not enough cameras, but not bad. Announcers clearly did their homework and learned something about each team, and clearly took notes about the players on both sides. Too often you see one of these broadcast teams that does a game or two and clearly has no idea who the players and coaches are. Bill Jones and Doug Anderson were terrific.
Station also did a good job calling the game without bias but still using images (like the huge SMU BASKETBALL log at the very end of the broadcast) that showed the game was an SMU game with a visiting opponent, not a joint game that automatically makes all things equal.
I thought it was fine too. There were a couple of graphic mistakes. Dia was listed as a Sr. And the mug shots need to be blown up on the starting lineups.
But those are correctable. They need a stronger camera for the floor because it seems too distant. But I also know Moody is not the most camera friendly place for close-up shots of the court. Anyone know if Ch. 21 has picked up any more games?
I didnt like everytime they showed the DFw Showdown logo, the Background behind the pony looked green. Also the Froggy uniforms looked really blue on TV whereas in Moody they were definately a sickening shade of purple.
I watched the game on 21 after watching it live in person.
Cameras are too high at Moody, don't know what to do about that. The floor doesn't look very good on TV. The white lettering on the court and on the basline doesn't show up very well on camera. And the floor looks much "glossier" on tv than in person. Moody looked very empty, in person, and especially on tv. When we went on the run, the crowd sounded great in person and on tv. 21 did an excellent job, I thought, and I appreciate the coverage. I'm sure we are paying for it, but I like the exposure.
I didn't like that Ch. 21 delayed the start of the replay a good half-hour or more for a stupid Mavs postgame show.
We paid for that airtime, I'm sure, and didn't get our money's worth. Come on 21, how much can you rehash an NBA game played in early December?
Me too. I guess we'll have to readdress the floor surface next year for our games on ESPN. go ponies. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Doug Anderson does good work on HS football broadcasts - when his voice doesn't give out. Bill Jones is solid.
There's better local on-air talent than what most national networks have. I cringe when CSTV puts their clowns on an SMU game. They'd be better off hiring two local guys on a freelance basis. That might not work in Hattiesburg, but Dallas definitely has great on-air talent. As for the color: Purple uniforms almost always look blue on TV. Purple is a tough color to pin down, whether it's TV, photos or printing. I noticed that the thin blue trim around the center court logo washed out on my TV. The logo looks red and white without a trace of blue in the overhead shots.
I was thinking a red lining around the white lettering would help. It wasn't too bad, but some lighting changes might solve that too. I would like to see a little closer shot which I think that was the station's camera guy not zooming in. One thing that I didn't like was that we were using the station's broadcast for our jumbotron. It was hard to read the graphics and they kept showing tcu highlights. It was a little annoying. Maybe it was because we couldn't get a good graphics program for ourselves. "He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"
One of 'em (Jones or Anderson...can't remember which) called Peruna something entirely different and then came back to correct it following a commercial break.
Not a bad broadcast but I agree with the camera angle from the top of Moody...was like watching ants move around...maybe get those cameras positioned lower next time...?
The camera angle is also an overhead shot at Gallagher-Iba (Oklahoma State), while it's almost at court level at Indiana. It's one of the quirks of college basketball.
There is a camera platform below the crow's nest at Moody. I don't know which was being used last night.
Gallagher-Iba is much like a larger, renovated Moody.
Hell, with as few people going to the games, figure out the best spot to locate a couple of camera platforms, take out the seats, and move on........
