You sure about these? I wouldn't be so sure he doesn't need the money. He lost his TV gig this year. He hasn't recruited in 9 years and there are tons of folks in Alabama (both at Auburn and at Samford) who would tell you he is not a nice guy.

when Bennett was fired, an awful lot of folks thought Terry Bowden was going to be announced as his successor and expected that would happen the week after our season ended. As I recall, there was a lot of excitement over that possibility.
This whole thing has kind of blown up since then...to the point we are now excited about Paul Johnson? He wasn't even on the radar when this exercise began. He may have become the "reality" pick as in, the only way SMU competes at even a CUSA level is to run something others don't (and will be difficult to prepare for)
I think I might like the idea of Bowden moreso than some of the other fallback possibilities being discussed.

if it turns out that PJ is indeed going to GT then i will never stop pulling for Bowden....personally i wanted him over anyone else at the outset but since there was that "two categories" BS announced by the AD, Bowden was relegated to the wings, if there is any doubt about PJ then then Orsini had better get a move on.

He's been "relegated to the wings" as you say, at every job opening. If he wants to get back into coaching it will be in Div 1 AA or an assistant at Div 1. The salaries are so high now, nobody wants to risk paying big bucks for a guy who's been out of coaching for 9 years.

also....SMU is not going to get a wow hire, i never want to hear anyone ever speak of that again, its ridiculous, for almost 20 years now we have been down in the dumps...was anyone honestly expecting someone with the name recognition of Bear Bryant to come strolling along and take the job!?!?! until this program has been built back up there will be no "wow" name associated with us, and guess who it will be by that time? the damn coach that makes us better!!!! i want a coach who is good at three things 1) recruiting 2) developing talent and 3) coaching ... your name doesn't guarantee any of that, experience and resume helps a ton though .... strangely enough Terry Bowden has all of these qualities but no one wants to touch him? BS!!! i hear ever year that he has turned down one or two offers, he as been waiting for the right opportunity and i hope that we give him a chance and he does likewise.

what kind of salary do you think he would command in the "what have you done for me lately" pay scale? that seems to dictate what coaches get
