I really do think any of these 5 would accept the position without much hesitation. Additionally we do not need to break the bank to hire any of them other than maybe Fran.
At the kind of money we are throwing around, I would set your sights much higher.
I don't think we need to throw money around like that. Our losing has nothing to do with money. We have always had money. Our problem has been our system. Fix the system and hire someone comptetent and winning will follow. I don't think anyone worth hiring that is "better" than any of the coaches I listed would give us the time of day. I'm not convinced that Paul Johnson is the right solution. For the kind of money it will take I do not think we should be taking that kind of gamble. I would rather hire one of the above and invest the rest in other aspects of the program or simply invest it and use it to pay the coaches new salary when bigger programs come calling.

Are we going to pay Dodge $2 million/year? Or are we going to break that in half and remind him that isn't as good as Pope Paul John...son...yet.
I might go with Dodge if Bowden, Barnett and Marty all say no. Dodge seems like an up-and-coming-coach-for-the-long-time-future kinda hire. I kinda think we are aiming for more of a win-now-then-goodbye kinda guy. Everyone would get their white helmet wish with Dodge...

Would dodge really make the transition to SMU if we asked? If so, I wouldn't mind him, though I am not accepting a freaking Dragon as our mascot

I would think $500,000 would be more than enough to lure Dodge. If I remember correctly he makes somewhere between $250,000-$300,000

I think Dodge would be the best route for us now. If we were to hire him I would hope that most of his Carroll cronies would not be able to follow him, especially Mendoza.

Let's see how many of you can spot the qualities of a great Coach BEFORE they are great. Just like with Todd Graham I say that Todd Dodge would be a great Head Coach for SMU. Not my first choice but it appears that Johnson, Barnett, Bowden, Franchione, Neuheisal and all the other big names are not availiable despite large amounts of cash. Now we are looking at the Troy Calhouns of the world to run still more option . I don't want a poll-I want names, addresses and ID cards so I can rub this in your faces in a few years
Dodge HAS A HISTORY of accusations of racial insensitivity against his staff, and thus will never be any good, and he can never be considered to hire at this university.

That's why you don't let him bring his staff with him.

Johnson is not available. Bowden and Barnett are available, but seemingly not atop SMU's wish list. Can't say either way about Neuheisel (my co-choice, along with June Jones) or Franchione, because I haven't heard anything specific from someone I consider a reliable source.

we probably wouldn't even need to offer more. just the job. SMU has so much more to offer than UNT.
and for the record, i do not think that Todd Dodge is what we need at SMU right now. he may turn out to be a good coach, but we need bigger, established record. there needs to be enough equity in the name that season tickets start selling as soon as the name is announced. THEN we need to win.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Damn shame we didn't get Dodge last year so all this would be irrelevant wouldn't it?
