Kate in DMN: It won't be Neuheisel

Postby RGV Pony » Fri Dec 07, 2007 11:42 pm

Read the last sentence of the article:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... 88e1e.html

This should narrow it down for us. Not Barnett. Not Neuheisel. Not Krag. Not Johnson.

That sentence raises another question: if Kate talked to a source close to the search, where was her follow up question? Source: "Neuheisel isn't being considered." Kate "Who is?"

No big loss-while he would be satisfactory-if you really follow his career you'll see that his programs have declined after some initial success

You know what this is starting to look like. I get the impression that Turner and the Militant Faculty are forcing Steve Orsini to be that picky girl we all know who is 33 and hasn't gotten married yet because she is looking for that perfect guy. You know, the one that finds faults with every eligible bachelor and then wonders we she isn't married at 33 like the rest of her friends.

Message to Turner and the Militant Faculty: "Nobody is perfect. Hire a coach that knows how to win regardless of their past or personality. Turner, look at it this way. If the coach you hire wins, he won't be at SMU long enough to do something wrong or rub one of the faculty members the wrong way. In essence you will have rented the coach to raise the program from obscurity. Just quit being that 33 year old chick that's too good for everyone."

Tell the faculty (& Turner for that matter,) to the shut the FRICK up. They have spent ONE HALF OF A BILLION DOLLARS upgrading the campus and academics of this university.

No, get the hell out of our way. It's the AD's turn to improve the football team (and rest of Athl dept.) spending a small fraction of what the uppity faculty has on academics.

That is all! Oh yeah, OPPOSE THE MILITANT FACULTY!

And had some nice intimate discussions with the NCAA.

The most disturbing part of that was this revelation:

"SMU requested permission this week from Air Force athletic director Dr. Hans Mueh to speak to coach Troy Calhoun."

What is going on? Why are they only trying to contact some of these people now? Why are we only looking at the service academies?

Had this been earlier in the search, I wouldn't think twice about it. Call everyone in the country. But, we appear to just be moving slowly down the ladder as each opportunity disappears.

Shouldn't they have known through the search firm that he wasn't interested without making this public? I'm starting to think we're being led around by a troop of monkeys!

I think Kate is lobbying for herself for the position.

RGVPONY, you assume she has a source and is capable asking a follow up question??? I have cut her some slack in the past, but that is a pathetic piece of reporting. In fact, I have now determined that she doesn't actually report, she simply regurgitates. Apparently, no call put into PJ for clarification about his visit to SMU or to Orsini asking for more details on the status of the search.

Huskerpony, your questions are good and you frustration is felt. I have a great deal of faith in Steve O and his ability as our AD. He is a proven commodity, but the "no communication" approach on this search has gotten ridiculous and is now wholly counter-productive. When you "have your guy" keep it quiet, but now it is time to open the Kimono and give the pony nation and the Dallas sports community an idea of what's going on.Not doing so only leads to speculation, assumptions (many of which are wrong I am sure) and the perception that they don't know what they are doing (which I don't necessarily believe). Its time for Steve O to speak up, and the dog gone DMN should be the one forcing the issue!

There, I feel better now.
