What's next? Is SMU going to ask for permission to speak with Army's head coach.?
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I talk.

RGV Pony why don't you give Kate your phone number so you can help her out with those follow-up questions. Hell, she responds to you:

Someone should call the SID's office at AFA tomorrow and ask. Kate? You reading this?

Kate:
SMU requested permission this week from Air Force athletic director Dr. Hans Mueh to speak to coach Troy Calhoun.

In fact, I have now determined that she doesn't actually report, she simply regurgitates. Apparently, no call put into PJ for clarification about his visit to SMU or to Orsini asking for more details on the status of the search.

The "no communication" approach on this search has gotten ridiculous and is now wholly counter-productive. When you "have your guy" keep it quiet, but now it is time to open the Kimono and give the pony nation and the Dallas sports community an idea of what's going on.Not doing so only leads to speculation, assumptions (many of which are wrong I am sure) and the perception that they don't know what they are doing (which I don't necessarily believe). Its time for Steve O to speak up, and the dog gone DMN should be the one forcing the issue!

You really think Orsini or Johnson would return calls during the middle of sensitive negotiations. Do you really? Heck, why doesn't she just call President Bush or Fidel Castro? I'm sure they'll get right back to her.

Why should Orsini make this search open to the public? Just so you can feel better about it? Aww, poor baby. Anything Orsini says would only lead to more wild speculation and assumptions. Saying anything publicly would only damage the search and guarantee us a lousy hire.

Seriously, what do you want Orsini to say? "We like this guy, but if it doesn't pan out we want this guy." Is that a good way to go about making a critical hire? Do you know of any major coaching searches that ARE public?

I know people are frustrated, but come on. Kate can't magically make people talk, and it's in SMU's best interests to keep it quiet until we have "our guy."

Longtime, the fact that she has not said that Johnson or Orsini have "refused to comment" or "have not returned calls" is a good indication that she is not pushing to ball here. It's only her job, so why get aggressive.

As for "public" comments about searches, it looks like GT's SID's regular comments to the media about their progress and people they were talking to pretty much killed their search.???? Not.

The fact is, the more you communicate, the less speculation and absurd assumptions there will be.He obviously doesn't have give details about negotiations and privilidged communications, etc., but we are an important constituency (and at least in my case, one who writes a descent check and has been a season ticket holder for years) and we deserve something more than silence.

Just one guys opinion.
