Re: Losing builds characterIt doesn't matter whther you win or lose, unless you lose. It's a scientific fact that every week half of the teams who play football lose. Losing only builds character for the other team.

Re: Losing builds characterFear not, we have some more stud RB's waiting for next year to carry the load KK has done so well carrying this year. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Losing builds characterI ask Nacho because I often times notice that those that complain the most do the least to support the SMU Athletic department.
Sort of like those that whine all the time about our political parties but yet they are not registered voters. Nacho, are you a member of the SMU Mustang Club? [ 10-30-2003, 07:00 AM: Message edited by: Texas Pony ]
Re: Losing builds characterI know personally that I was barely able to find a seat in the SMU cheering section at the Tulsa game last week because of all 30 Mustang Club members that bothered to drive 3 hours to see SMU play last week. And the crowds those Mustangs Clubbers have to endure in that half empty Press Box above Ford Stadium is more than any man should have to endure. Finally, the annual thrilling show of support by Mustang Clubbers in the Court side seats of Moody is truly an inspiring sight. Why don't you worry about the pathetic support of Mustang Clubbers at SMU events and let each person decide how he wishes to support the program.

Re: Losing builds characterYes, I am a member and I have 5 season tickets to football games. Sorry if I complain too much. I thought I had toned it down quite a bit this week. I'm trying not to say much about the players or coaches. I've talked about the Red Sox and C-USA in various threads in the last few days.

Re: Losing builds characterFirst Stallion questions the loyalty of "Professor X" (who is a former SMU player) and extremely loyal SMU Fan, and now Stallion bashes the SMU Mustang Club.
Yeah Stallion I bet if you check the status of the few SMU Fans that do travel to most road games besides parents they are mostly members of the Mustang Club. Let me ask you Stallion, are you now proclaiming the SMU Mustang Club should be abolished? Are you proclaiming the SMU Mustang Club is a failure? No dodges, just answer the questions? Are you implying that SMU Athletics would be better off if the funds the Mustang Club raises stop coming in? You defend people like Nacho that proclaim they find the SMU losses "funny" and "he can't wait to watch us lose another one" and then you attack the SMU Mustang Club Members. ANY QUESTIONS ANYONE? [ 10-30-2003, 09:44 AM: Message edited by: Texas Pony ]
Re: Losing builds characterNacho, since you are a MC member, why don't you come to the "Coffee with Coach Bennett" on the Monday mornings prior to a home game? There you would have an oportunity to ask your questions directly to him and hear his answers. You also might come away from the experince with a little different outlook. I know it isn't always easy or possible to make it to an early morning function, but you ought to try to make at least one if you can.

Re: Losing builds characterAs a folow up I am also a registered voter but I don't belong to any party.
Re: Losing builds characterI can't make those meetings but I have met Bennett a couple of times. Seems like a nice fellow. Good luck to him and the team.

Re: Losing builds characterI don't recall calling the losses "funny". I certainly don't want to sit through another one. I definitely will be at the Fresno game.

Re: Losing builds characterYes I'm saying the Mustang Club has kissed [deleted] to this administration for 15 years. I'm saying that nobody in the Mustang Club has had the Balls to stand up as a forceful advocate for a strong Division 1A football program. I'm saying that for years there has been an absolute void of leadership that were willing to stand up and say this program was built on a defective Model. I'm saying that at no other major institution in this state would the alumni have rolled over and played fetch with an administration that was dead set on emasculating the program. I'm saying that the Mustang Club has mislead the SMU community for years about prospects for improvements in this program in order to suck up to the administration. I'm saying the Mustang Club won't see a penny from me until SMU has a program with a Model with reasonable chance of success as a STRONG program in Division 1A. I'm saying the Mustang Club got the Football program it deserves. That being said-I support this program and the team by going to every home game and every away game in the vicinity. Finally, as for the "loyal" Professor X-he has taken a shot at each and every coach this school has had since these message boards have been up without any real recognition of the barriers he KNOWS they face-this time after 1 1/2 years of a coach's tenure-that's how loyalty is defined around the Mustang Club-who are we going to fire next! Bennett wasn't my choice either but for all these loyal Mustang Clubbers to start jumpin' ship now turns my stomach.
