Guy got the raw end of the deal at GT and with the Cowboys. I understand we want a flashy guy, but the guy can win.

He only won at Tech b/c of Tenuta. Tech's defense was the whole team the last 4 years
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones

That said, maybe Tenuta would be a good coach for SMU. No nonsense guy, far better coordinator than Bennett ever was. Not a fan of the DC route, but if we must, Tenuta is a good one.

I don't think anyone really cares if we get a flahsy guy. We just want someone who can recruit and win. I wouldn't be too upset with Chan, but I would rather go the Barnett/Bowden route. I'm sure the admin would rather go the Chan route.

Chan does have one important qualification: service academy experience (air force)!

To be fair, Coach Bennett was viewed as an exceptional coordinator - right up there with how Tenuta is viewed now. K-State's defense (it helps to have Terence Newman, Mark Simoneau, Darren Howard, et al) was absolutely brutal, and Coach B was lauded as its mastermind. That's why he talked about having the talent - and depth - dictates whether any defense can be successful. He's right about that. (Unfortunately, he made plenty of other mistakes ... but that's water under the bridge. Good luck, Coach B.)

Another reason for those brainless idiots to mock SMU? Oh goody.
I really wish we'd move our games to another station, and when we start kicking people's asses in football, deny those idiots credentials to any SMU events. They're not sports analysts, they're a-holes with microphones who think (inaccurately) that they're "entertaining."

How about Chan as head coach and bring in Todd Dodge as assistant HC & OC. I think Dodge makes around 250k at ntsu, double his salary to around 500k.

I don't think Dodge would want to be second fiddle to someone as young as Gailey (age 55). If it were a Schottenheimer (age 64) whose age would require him (most likely) to step aside in 5 or so years after the team is returned to respectability, yes, but I think Gailey would be in place for the long-haul if he turned us around.
I HATE the University of Texas!

he shouldn't even be talked about.... Bowden is a Wow. Fran is a Wow. Applewhite is a Wow. Ricky boy is more of a Wow. Barnett is a Wow in the wrong way. But no Chan. we can do much better

It is really rediculous that SMU is even considering Gailey with him just being fired by GT and GT stealing PJ from Orsini. Talk about getting SCRAPS off the floor.....

Calling Fran a "wow" is like calling Roy Williams a "great safety."
