Gary Barnett

If anyone on the search commitee is reading this post and if it is true that you will interview Coach Barnett, remember if you really care about winning at SMU , Coach Barnett would truly be a great hire for SMU. As I said on another post, Coach Barnett has won Championships at everywhere he has been. He has done so in the BIG 10 at NORTHWESTERN of all places. He won several Championships at Colorado. If we are serious about really turning this program around Coach Barnett, like PJ would have, will WIN Championships at SMU ! Coach Barnett says he wants to get back into coaching and is "very interested in SMU " which is more than anyone can say for PJ. Yet Coach Barnett is the same quality of coach.......Coach Barnett is a proven recruiter and kids know they can play for Coach Barnett, and if they are good enough, they can go on to the NFL. Superior proven coach....SMU with the money raised wants to rebuild its football program. Gary Barnett wants a second chance and will prove he can WIN here. What more do we want ? Coach Barnett and SMU are alot better fit than some think. We need a quality coach like Gary Barnett at SMU if Championships are our goal.

I don't really know much about Barnett, but from what I do know I think he would be a solid hire. Doubtful he would do anything to set the program back (if that is even possible at this point) and would likely take it forward several steps.

I believe the same is true of Gailey.

Has won at a school with tougher academic standards than SMU, that played in a tougher conference than SMU, and had a longer history of losing than SMU. Of the available candidates, he has by far the best track record of winning at a program like ours.

barnett would be a great hire. not sure why we didn't give him more of a look (as far as we know) right off the bat especially since he expressed interest in us so early. who cares if he has "a past". so does smu football.

i hope turner doesn't f this one up.

because we aren't looking to win championships yet, just looking to win more than 1 game in a season...or maybe win 6 and go to a terrible bowl. anything is better than this.

Did anyone see Barnett last week on FSN backing off his statements that he was interested in the SMU job, when it looked like we were going with PJ--now we're talking to him! Love the irony!

Oh yeah....and just hire this guy already!
