This is what I was worried about. We are at risk of losing a year of recruits waiting for OUR new coach.
Why not have Orsini declare himself as interim Head Coach and then get the interim staff talking to people like this. I think Neberaska did this??????

The recruiting waiver was merely to contact the current committments and let them know their committments would be honored. Orsini is not on the recruiting trail. The waiver ended November 11th. I am sure that when a new coach is hired he will recruit new players. Hopefully they will be good.
this is a current players brother who was waiting for a formal offer apparently. not exactly recruiting trail stuff.
It is not Orsini's job to recruit players for a coach we do not even have yet. Where were you when no one agreed with me that we should have offered Craig James' kid just for the legacy points? He would not have come but we should have offered. Let the new coach be hired and let the coach make his offers. If Bell is as good as he sounds I am sure he will be offered. Signed is not until February.
Edit: He is a JUCO so the signing date is later in December.

I think it is more important that we get a coach in place and let him have his say in assistants and recruits. Yes we are late, but if I am a coaching prospect I do not want to find out the AD is out getting committments for players I may not even want. If a slew of 4 and 5 star players were banging down our door to commit then that might be different but it has been a long time since I have seen that happen at SMU.

He will be at TCU this weekend to announce his committment. He is solid for TCU. Kid is a good one and think Derrius will be another good one for SMU. Just great athletes.
From what Stallion said, he didn't committ. What is the word you hear?

BUS: I am sure you have seen that I have signed on to your suggestion to have Orsini name himself interim coach for the short term. The JC signing date is getting too close. I really was basing my thoughts on the beliefs we would have a coach by now. It is important that we at least be in position to offer Bell and if there are any other JC prospects out there that could help we need to have someone to offer them. I want the new coach to do his own recruiting but there are some short term things that could be done by Orsini as an interim coach.

Just out of curiosity, how would Orsini go about evaluating who he should recruit? Besides, he is probably a little busy evaluating coaches...or damn well better be.

OK, how about Vic? He may have some free time right now, and I'm sure he could use the Frequent flyer miles.

I agree which was why I said I did not want him doing it initially. But it does not take much to ask Bell to sign and if there had been any type of JC recruiting done prior to Bennett leaving hopefuly someone knows some people. They could name Viloria interim and let him sign Bell if Bell will come, but not having anyone in place with the authority to act is not a good thing. I definitely do not want Orisini recruiting kids for the February signing date. That should be the new coach's job.

Vic is not qualified under NCAA Rules to recruit and he isn't a designated recruiter. He would have to take a qualifying test. Plus, I'm sure a recruit has to at least project to be admissible before an offer could be made.Aren't our assistants still under contract holding the fort down?

I thought they were gone. You make valid points, I am just wanting a way to have someone eligible to offer 1 or 2 kids if need be. Would Osborne have had to requalify or is it once certified always cetified?
