another week/new hope

Postby Charleston Pony » Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:56 pm

not that I have the audacity to predict a win, but I'm hopeful we see some improvement on offense and can at least compete with Fresno for our Homecoming crowd. Hope there is a crowd of at least 16k to let our guys know we are still behind them. As painful as this season has been, still wish I was there to watch.

Dare I say that we sound inspired, and FSU sounds FLAT? Not gettin' too excited, but the wheels have usually started coming off by now. Sure, a mild moral victory...maybe a corner being turned?

the problem our team has is that we are generally outmatched physically. Even if our starters match up well, we don't have the depth to sustain a 60 minute effort. Usually takes just one bad break for the wheels to start falling off. I'm pleased we stopped Fresno after Wallis' fumble...and even more surprised that Wallis is back in the game.

KK's 2nd fumble this year inside the 5 yd line going in for a score. Wow! This group never ceases to amaze me at how they find new ways not to win.

Give it up for the defense and Harper. Offense is shooting itself in the foot, but the wheel stay on.

Poor KK. Havin a great day, but he has GOTTA BE CURSED inside that 5 yard line. Pulling him out was the wrong move though, just like playing the magical Tate Wallis.

if we get back down near the goalline again, I'd like to see Keith Williams in the game. He never gets any carries, yet always does well in scrimmages. At 5-7 and 196 lbs, he's built for those short yardage plays.

every week, I hope to see improvement and now realize the best I can hope for is for the defense to play inspired football. Bottom lin eis that we don't have enough playmakers on offense to give this team any chance of winning this year. Hoping that Massey, Munlin, the Chase bros., Pellerin, Henderson, somebody? anybody? can help turn our fortunes next year. Easy to see how this team can get discouraged knowing we can't win a game if our opponent scores in double figures!

Mr. Charleston Pony, you sounds a little disappointed in the team and yet, your words expressed hope for the team. That is great! I think the defense is tired of carrying the load, they need help from the offense. We have so many new recruits that are ready or atleast anxious to get some playing time, I say let them play...not to put down the starting players now. At this point, why not let them experience what it feels like to get some college actions, what will it hurt now? Do you think it might spark up the crowd alittle?

I'm as frustrated as anyone, but also as optimistic as anyone because it's easy to see we are getting whipped because we are outmanned in the trenches and don't have enough size/speed in the skill positions. I see that changing when I see the speed Bennett is recruiting and looking at our lines, most of our big boys are still that (boys...Frosh & RS frosh). I just have a hard time knowing it will likely be 2005 or 2006 before we are competitive again. I'm an old guy who has no guarantees he'll be here to see the Pony Express ride again!

Mr. Charleston Pony... the Fres& Redshirt Fresh for this season that I see on the sidelines and some that have the opportunity to play looks like they can make a difference on the team. I talked to alot of those young players and they are pumped up and ready to see some actions. Some of them seems discouraged and embarrassed. Who can blamed them! But I tell them, "don't quit now.. just go out there and do their best! Take this season as a learn from it. You made the point that you were as frustrated as any one else.... can you imagine how those players must feel. For us as fans & their spirit supporters... we need to stand together and support those players and not criticized....."As for you, Mr. Charleston Pony...we all have to go someday.. just take one day at a time and LIVE LIFE TO YOUR FULLEST!"
