it will be down once Gibb's accepts the job at SMU.

It's hard to find a picture of a guy who last coached college football before the internet was invented.

Stallion, since he was on staff at OU under Switzer, he therefore has a past and we can't hire him.

As I have said all along, it will be Mike Shula.

I never thought SMU could attract a Paul Johnson who is sought after by other BCS programs.

Face it, all BCS programs can offer 1.5 - 2 million.

We will get either damaged goods, a proven coach with baggage or a coach who was done wrong and not given a fair shake (Shula).

Frankly, Shula would be a great hire. I bet the sticking point with Shula will be his buyout clause. I'm sure SMU will want a stiff buyout clause as compensation for resurrecting a quality coach.

Lets just end it and hire either Fran or Dodge in that order......I want someone with Texas connections that can recruit.

Give your best offer to Fran, if he will not take it, then modify the offer and get Dodge with the minimum it would take to get him to leave UNT...

We aimed too high and are about to miss the whole boat.

Take your best shot at Fran....then go for Dodge.....

It appears to me that Orsini has started waiting again on a football season to end to start dealing directly with a new candidate.......Sounds kind of like the PJ deal right ???......Well I think we can bank on it that he now is interested in a candidate in the NFL..................Doesn't look like we are going to get our HC issue resolved anytime soon...This new NFL candidate really needs to be a Special Coach with all the excellent candidates SMU will not even talk to............I guess we can at least expect this NFL Coach has notified SMU that he would like to coach here ?

Fran's buyout at A&M would cost him a fair chunk of change if he were to move to SMU in year 2-3 ( three year buyout )...after seeing his dealings with alumni/fans/media, I am not sure he is the best option...he might soon become our ONLY option, but I hope for either Dodge/Shula before Fran.

Stallion who would you take between Gibbs and Dodge? I think Dodge has huge upside and we know Gibbs can coach.

tough question-let's go with Gibbs because of 32 years of coaching at some of the Top jobs in America at OU, LSU, Auburn, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. More likely to be able to put a quality staff together and knows what needs to be done to win. The consensus is a coach with a proven track record. So Gibbs.

Gibbs was the DC at UGA for one season in 2000 where they finished 8-4, two years later they were 13-1 and #3 in the country...

Gibbs was the DC at LSU for one season in 2001, two years later they won the national championship going 13-0...

Gibbs left the Dallas Cowboys in 2005, two years later they are 12-1 and steaming towards the Super Bowl....

Can we just hire this guy for a year, fire him and book our tickets for the Rose Bowl in 2010?!

Love the proven track record as a HC...

was 2-15-1 aganst Colorado, Texas, and Nebraska and never won more than 5 games in a year in the Big 8.

Maybe we've forgotten the age old strategy....

Postby SMUBob » Wed Dec 12, 2007 2:21 am

...for a successful hunt that some of us learned back in college. It was called "Go Ugly Early".

Looks like Steve O didn't opt for that strategy.

We all remember what happened on evenings that we focused our efforts on getting an A-list hottie to notice us. For every one evening that we struck paydirt there'd be 999 others when, well, you know.....
