How long did it take SMU to find and hire Orsini?

Postby RGV Pony » Mon Dec 10, 2007 10:26 pm

It seems like a decade ago. Seriously, I can't remember a thing about the search. Was the same Plano search firm used? Who was on the search committee? Who played the role being played by Steve O in the current coaching search; was it Turner?

Odd that in several ways Turner has been portrayed as a possible barrier to Steve O doing what he wants (that doesn't include hiring/not hiring PJ), while Turner had to have been involved in getting Orsini.

You can find that out by reading the blog and searching the archives. I would do it, but I am going to get a beer.

I'm working on my third. Thanks for the tip, though.

Without bothering to take the time to read either.....

University presidents are responsible for hiring AD's. Don't know the details [search firms, trustee involvement, etc], but that is who was responsible.

That being said, university presidents are also the ones ultimately responsible for hiring football coaches as well. AD's do the groundwork and recommend their man, but the university presidents make the final decision. [Corso even said so! (during the Les Miles fiasco)]

The Chancellor at Nebraska saved his job by firing the AD and bringing Osborne back. He was on the chopping block midseason right along with Callahan and the AD before he made that move. He also attended all the interviews with Osborne.

 Turner is highly involved in the coaching search, and he is ultimately responsible for what happens.
