All Hail the Great Tate Wallis

Post by FloridaMustang »

What a joke this kid is.

Oh wait, I forgot, I guess the coaches just didn't teach him how to not fumble the ball.

This dude has no business being a quarterback on D1a football team. Oh I forgot he isn't a quarterback on D1a football team.

I drove to Tulsa last week to see Phillips, and what little I saw of him looked very good (opening drive for a touchdown). Then a whole bunch of ugly Tate Wallis football. Phillips hardly touched the ball the rest of the day.

Go to Ford with the expectation that perhaps Bennett had finally determined Phillips needed to take every snap, since he decided to play more freshmen this week. Wrong once again. Wallis plays the lions share of the game, fumbles twice; takes an uncountable number of huge sacks for losses and literally sucks the life out of the team, and me.

I have no idea what Bennett is thinking in this regard, but it makes absolutely no sense to me.

Bennett LOVES Tate. You can COUNT on him being the starting quarterback for the remainder of his carreer! The tipoff was when he said in the post game interview that he hasn't GIVEN UP on Chris. Say what? Chris seemed to ignite the team each time he was in there. At least he can get positive yardage. He needs more playing time to get better, but Bennett doesn't seem willing to give it to him. In contrast, Wallis fumbles twice, holds onto the ball preferring to run it rather than throw it (when a pass play has obviously been called) and gets sacked each time! You have 3-4 seconds to get rid of the ball on a pass play, but Wallis takes 7-10 seconds (unless he has been sacked by that time!). When he does throw it, its usually for 5 yards MAX even when its 4th down and we need 10 yards for a first. Why he looks for the short receiver rather than the long receiver is beyond me! The play called may be wrong for the situation, but Wallis has got to start to learn to throw the ball DOWNFIELD especially when the situation requires it!

Am I mistaken that Bennett said "Phillips will start the rest of the season?" after a game 2 weeks ago and after the Bartel incident - what is the point of pulling his redshirt if you aren't going to play him? Bennett is very indecisive in his coaching AND statements...

PonyFan, you are absolutely accurate in your statement. The only thing you left out of Bennett's statement was the need to get Chris experience for next year. My guess is today Phillips took 25% of the snaps or less. Everytime Phillips was in I was hopeful that something good would happen. With Wallis (God bless him) all you see are a few errant passes and a lot of sacks for big losses.

And a couple of fumbles you forgot to mention.

For the life of me I can not understand Bennett regarding Phillips. He is clearly the talent that needs polishing. Wallis never has shown the ability to become a real QB at this level. He has shown the ability to produce very little.

To me it seemed that any time Phillips showed the slightest lack of production he was out but if Wallis got sacked or fumbled, no problem, he was right back in. I do not get it. WALLIS IS AT BEST A BACK UP. PHILLIPS IS A POSSIBLE FUTURE QB FOR SMU. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY. SHEESH.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!!
